Install/Update Errors

A while ago, my Overwatch didn’t want to update, with a very weird, random-seeming error. I did eventually fix that, but just today I tried launching Battle .net via the Overwatch shortcut, and I got an error “Something went wrong while downloading a required update. Please check your connection and try again”, with error code BLZBNTAGT000008AD.

Launching the Battle .net app via its shortcut has it launch, show “Blizzard Agent is asleep. Attempting to wake it up”, with code BLZBNTBNA00000005, for a few seconds, and then proceed to the game screen.

On this screen, every game I have installed is shown as “Install”, as if I don’t have them installed. Using Locate to find them changes the button to “Update”, but pressing that has it try to update, and show another error, “We’re having a problem transferring data. Please check your internet connection and try again.” This has the same code as the first error. If I try to “Install”, I get the same error.

I have already tried disabling antivirus. Flash for Internet Explorer is up to date. Removing the Battle .net folder in ProgramData did not help. I don’t know what to do.

Have you tried repairing the game on the launcher? If not give that a blast.

I would, but it’s not giving me the option to. I apparently can’t send links, or I’d send a screenshot.

Ah yea sorry I missed that part. well then only thing i can suggest is uninstalling and re installing. Or somehow your overwatch files are not in the correct directory.

There is a function where the app launcher can scan for your pre-existing game files.

  1. Open the Battle.net app launcher
  2. Click the Blizzard logo in to the top left corner of the app window and click settings.
  3. Click Game Install/Update in the Settings Navigation Pane
  4. Scroll down below the install file location list and click the “Scan for Games” button.
  5. Wait for the app to scan your hard drives for your installed games. Unless those files are corrupt they will be remapped to the Blizzard App launcher.
  6. Any required game updates should then begin.

Fixed the problem by following the selective startup steps and reïnstalling Overwatch.

Is that all? I reinstalled battlenet, got rid of every file of it, uninstalled antiviruses, disabled the firewall and it’s still not working.
