Both. I chalk it up to people just plain being coddled when raised.
Of course. Nobody is denying that.
But then again, OP isn’t saying that’s what was happened to him, either. He just complained that he gets crapped on a lot in his matches.
My point stands. This community has a really bad problem with snowflakes who can’t handle a bit of banter.
I’ve been on the receiving end of some pretty terrible treatment in this game (being stalked between matches and crapped on in chat, and outright targeted for no reason). But that kind of treatment is VERY different to run-of-the-mill insults or ribbing.
Absolutely NOT. That is a terrible idea.
This is a social game. Socialisation is a hugely important part of the experience.
The other day my team’s Genji somehow singlehandedly WON 1v5 skirmish. He returned back to the team and the chat exploded with ‘Genji W’ and 'Holy sh*t" while we all did the crouch thing and spammed “yes” “yes” “yes” voicelines. It was crazy. That sort of thing is great for team morale.
Whenever the other team has a crazy good player, I always compliment them after they kick my butt because frankly, they deserve the recognition, and players like that make MY experience more entertaining. Or I say something like “Widow pls T-T” after she headshots me for the 4th time in a row lol. It’s good sportsmanship.
If you remove match chat, you remove the main CHARM of this game. The most fun part of this game is having those little friendly interactions with other players. I enjoy the game itself, but if it weren’t for those interactions, I’d absolutely drop this game like hot trash.
IMO turning chat off is kind of a lame thing to do, unless you’re really having a rough day and you just want to chill. But that option is always available to you if you can’t handle interacting with mean players.
But let’s be honest here. If you can’t handle playing with mean players, maybe you should stick to single-player games? Don’t ruin the socialisation of SOCIAL games just because you can’t crack it.
