I’m just convinced humanity is rotten. People who do that are often deflecting because they were actually the problem. I once had a pair of DPS wanting to report both supports for not healing when they had 19k and 17k healing respectively. People just refuse to believe maybe they are the reason for the loss, so surely it must be someone else to blame.
Get rid of match chat. People only use it to belittle the enemy team and goad them into arguments. And it makes team chat worse because everyone is defensive about getting a patronising comment in match chat so they act out.
The pseudonymity of playing online is the real culprit. If people were playing together in real life, even if they’re not already friends, there’d be way less toxicity.
It’s psych Warefare.
Even in a IRL game of chess, I’ve seen 2 older men sling insults at each other:
“That’s a [weak] move. Only [cowards] don’t commit.”
“You sure you wanna do that? My Knight’s ready to [attack] your only piece worth a [structure that houses Hydro Electricity]”
It’s to make the Opponent emotional, make mistakes and second guess their actions. If it’s not allowed, communications between teams would be disabled by default from official sources.
All competitive games are like that, I am pretty sure you have done it too. What makes people like that is Matchmaking, why should i personally care about some randoms feeling that i am most likely never gonna play with again, and even if i do i prolly won’t remember… I have the brain of a goldfish when i play OW2 games, and don’t really remember the interactions or game for that matter of my previous games…
Its important because in an online game people will get frustrated and trash talk no matter what, and what that causes is complete lack of any comms now as people, especially in high ranks, are scared to do anything in voice chat. If u aren’t a known player or streamer, u will get chat banned or suspended for extremely minor offenses.
And honestly, yeah toxicity on some level is fun. On a high rank especially it just creates an actual environment that is way more interesting and fun and can create real rivalries and stuff, which exists in like every single other multiplayer fps game. And honestly, if u cannot handle minor trash talk, get off the internet. Like actually, get a life lmfao.
Given you would not know what high elo is actually like so idk why bring that up to you.
I keep telling the ignorant head in the sand posters here that it’s the only proven and working solution to fix most of this toxicity, but they want things to remain awful all the time.
Man people now wouldn’t have survived for a second in the glory days of TF2, Counter Strike, or CoD lobbies
Heck even League is still way way way worse than OW2. I played it for the first time in like 5 years on a whim, and my first game in had someone slinging slurs with the hard R.
Yet someone goes “DPS diff” and then OMG THIS GAME IS THE MOST TOXIC GAME EVER
