so, my connection in the past month has been crazy, to say the least. I constantly get this red plug symbol banner on my main menu, and when I’m in-game, I always get this red hazard symbol right before my game manages to ‘lose connection to the server’ like it’s been doing all month a million times. The weird thing is that I stay at a low latency and around 60 fps- it doesnt seem like there’s an issue until it loses connection for whatever reason it does. I have tons of games on this pc and they all run smooth, even GTA, but for some reason, overwatch is the only program on this entire computer that does anything like this. Please help, it’s literally unplayable
Hey there!
Let’s go ahead and have you run a WinMTR network test so that we can further investigate the problem. Here are the instructions. Use the game drop-down towards the bottom of the page to select “Overwatch”.
Once you have that WinMTR test data in a .TXT file, open the file. You’ll need to copy and paste the contents of the Text document into the post, and put four Tilde (~) marks above the WinMTR data. It’ll look like this:
WinMTR goes here
If you have issues pasting here, please use Pastebin and post the link (ex: Pastebin (dot) com/123456).
Hi, sorry for the late reply. The game did start working after I updated my graphics drivers that time, but this time, no solutions are working. Flushing DNS, resetting firewall, disabling antivirus, driver updates again, every tip in the book. I just want the game to work so I can go beyond 2 minutes into a game without a disconnect, as documented in this WinMTR test. pastebin(dot)com/2n1WXQHH
Hey there! Thank you for taking the time to reach back out with that WinMTR test. Looking at the test, I’m not seeing any overarching issues that would explain these disconnects. In this case the best option will be to temporarily test an alternate network such as a mobile hotspot or VPN. Once connected to the hotspot/VPN, play a few matches as a test. Be sure to play a game mode that doesn’t have penalties.
If you don’t disconnect while you’re connected to the mobile hotspot/VPN, that tells us the issue is isolated to your normal home network. If this is the case we can only recommend contacting the ISP for assistance determining what is causing the issue to occur on the home network. They may adjust specific security/firewall settings on your modem or temporarily replace the device to narrow it down further. Keep in mind that you can request to speak with a “level 2 or level 3 technician” when contacting the ISP, as the front-line representatives typically only have access to basic diagnostics and troubleshooting tools.
I hope this information helps get you back in-game uninterrupted!
So I tried both a hotspot and a vpn. Even though using both gave me major lag, there wasn’t a single instance of disconnection, just intense rubberbanding. I decide to see how it runs on my internet once more, and I instantly disconnect at the menu once again. I’m going to contact my ISP about it, and I do thank you for the help, but how come this happened in the first place, out of curiosity? The exact day the new patch came out, this started happening, so it has to be related to that- but how come? The game used to run smooth as butter, but then an update comes out and it’s back to disconnecting from the server the second I hop on. I hope this issue doesn’t last too long, 'cause it’s really starting to suck that I can’t even play anymore
I’m having the same issue on PS4, and I directly plugged in. No errors with any other online game. Just Overwatch as a lately.
Heya!
If it disappeared on the VPN and the connection test looked like that, it may be a router setting - like quality of service. You might try factory resetting it to see if it fixes things.
That was actually really solid advice, thanks a lot! Games HAVE been actually working now, but the only concern is I still get that plug icon on menu and the flashing red caution sign in-game, which almost always mean that a Disconnect is imminent, even though I haven’t had one yet. And as much as that concerns me, The game is definitely running, tho not as smooth as before for some reason(I still have ever so slight rubber banding really often in games) but as a temporary fix, it’s golden. I’ll let you know if any other problems arise, thank you!
Edit: it’s already back to how it was being before and disconnecting on the menu and mid game, sadly.
