Inputs not registering?

Has anyone noticed that sometimes your inputs just don’t register? For example you have to spam reload several times or spam E to blink and it just doesn’t do it

I know it’s not my keyboard because I have a Wooting 80HE with everything set to 0.1mm. It feels extremely frustrating.

i get super bad no reg problems
im told its my internets bad upload rate but im no expert on that stuff
its worth doing a speed test and comparing it to an average tho

No-regs are their own issue (absolutely horrendous on hazard) but it’s more like the game doesn’t register your inputs client side sometimes. It’s not often that it happens but I know it happens because I mash the same key 3-5 times and it still doesn’t do it

Whenever you do something, it has to be registered by the server to happen.
Could be that the route you’re routed through has issues which causes some of the “no reg”.
It doesn’t explain all of it, but it might be part of the issue.

Yes, happened for a few games yesterday. I thought it may have something to do with my VPN and joining the wrong server.

Of course you’re on tracer. Every other character- except maybe Kiri- is fine but with Tracer, I swear I blinked but noooooo

Anyways, WHY is your blink on e?? Moving it to my mouse made blinking quickly much easier

I swear to God I thought that was just me. It affects not only abilities themselves but also shooting, the left click. I have died so many times because I literally was not shooting. I keep pressing the left mouse buttons but no bullets and I die. It happens for like half a second and then it goes back to normal. And I noticed it happening for quite some time.

I literally thought it was both my mouse and my keyboard. Does not happen in other games like Rivals. I was honestly ready to buy a new mouse even tho mine is like 2-3 months old until I saw it being fine everywhere else and in other games.

Also favor the shooter concept has been worse as well. So many times my abilities do not go off in time and they go on cooldown or the animation is there but nothing happens. This one affects Kiri especially. Cleanse going off on your teammates but not you. I hold down TP and it does not go off and I die, or I see the animation but nothing happens and the cooldown starts. It is getting extremely frustrating.

Yep. It happens a lot with tracer. I’ll animation cancel melees with blinks or recalls and its very noticeable when the melee goes off in the kill cam but not the aforementioned animation cancels which were pressed simultaneously.

Happens with Freja too, Right Clicks just randomly stop registering, and you have to die to reset it. Very frustrating.

My bad I meant recall. It’s just most noticeable on tracer, but it’s not exclusive to her. Best I can describe it is temporary hiccups where the game seems to be failing to keep up with raw input.

This is why for example some Tracer plays literally spam recall because it might simply not register the first time, and oftentimes it doesn’t.

What I’m describing is not exactly ping, it’s clientside, but obviously if your action is sent too late then it gets even worse with ping.

They need to maybe increase the tickrate or look into optimisations.

The 1st time ‘super bad’ register problems happened to me, it was because the mouse was so worn down.

So when register issues popped up a 2nd time much later on, I knew right away it was my keyboard. (which I confirmed was no longer reliably registering presses)

The 1st time had to go as far as to become ‘super bad,’ because I didn’t know that it was a thing that happened. (I’ve had that mouse for so many years & it was always fine)

So: try using a different mouse/keyboard & see if that fixes it.

It’s likely still worth trying a new keyboard. Just because it’s a nice keyboard configured with high sensitivity to key presses doesnt mean there isnt a defect of some kind.

So what else is happening? Is it during a fight?
Is your PC already laggy?
Could be USB problems, processor getting old. etc etc

If I get inputs eaten in any game I’d be mad. And the few games that have had stuff like that is because my PC is getting old.

I once had an issue where the mini fridge next to me kicking on caused electromagnetic interference with my USB hub causing it to drop input. It was most notable when I’d try to stop walking but it wouldn’t register the key-up event.

People would be surprised what seemingly innocuous issues are the causes of their problems :slight_smile: (which is also why I’m often super skeptical of all the people who say things like “I promise its not an issue on my side, i checked my router!”)

I have this happen sometimes. I swear I hit a button but nothing happened. Usually I think it’s just input lag with my keyboard. But on some heroes cough Kiriko cough there’s definitely bugs around her abilities where they actually DO register and go off but it doesn’t matter because you die anyway even when you see the full animation and everything on your screen. Thing even goes on cooldown and you still die. Happens when you have low latency but the enemy has higher latency because of favor the shooter. It’s frustrating.

I’m not as familiar with Tracer so I don’t know which one you might be experiencing.

i missread their post, my problems are shots and inputs happening on my end but not for everyone else

That means you’re experience packet loss. What youre describing is called a client mispredict, where the game client predicts that something happens before the server has a chance to confirm it happen. When packet loss occurs, the server never confirms the command and then the game client is forced to roll back the change because it didn’t actually occur.

In some cases this could be an issue with your router, but more likely it is a problem somewhere between you and the server. There is probably a faulty network node somewhere along the way thats getting lost as its routed.

Same here: ults not registering, shields raised and still get stunned by shatter, Brigitte shield bash not working as an escape.
Its not my hardware: Playing at borderless fullscreen window at 180 Hz, render time is 5.5~ ms.
With NV reflex set to ultra, system latency is reported to be 12ms according to NVIDIA Reflex Analyzer.
My 100 mbit vdsl is also rock solid with an average ping of 10ms to battle.net and I am living in a small town where there’s enough bandwidth for every household and the DSLAM has more than enough capacity.
My mouse and keyboard are on 1kHz and 8kHz polling rate. So it is clearly visible to me that the skill is ready to use, I click/use the ability and NOTHING happens.

Generic helpdesk answer tells me to verify files, divers and hardware, but that’s bullcrap.
It’s the hitreg/tickrate from the servers and this crap client not registering inputs, when I clearly smashed the buttons!

Sometimes I get this weird lag that seems to reverse my movement key input or just nullifies them completely, usually lasts like 2 seconds.

This is called rubberbanding and its due to packet loss.
