Infested with hackers

Every game I play is full of hackers—it’s a 50/50 chance they’re on my team or the enemy’s. I quit this game before because it was overrun with hackers. When Battlenet released, they banned a bunch of them and said they were working on better anti-cheat measures, so I thought the game would be playable again. But I guess that’s not true.

There will always be cheaters. If that is a deal breaker for you, I suggest single player games.

But seriously though, what do you want Blizzard to do? Wave their magic wand and make all of the cheaters disappear? Gather the names of every cheater and put them in the Death Note? Challenge the cheaters to a Shadow Game with their cheats disabled?

Good to know. Btw, do you know how to quote in the forums? You highlight the text you want to quote and click “quote”. It’ll look like:

This guy is speaking the truth. You probably shouldn’t play online multiplayer games.

OW actually has less cheaters than almost every other game. So…

That is the hard truth that most people cannot handle - cheaters are the No.1 problem in this game, everything else is secondary. You can have a perfectly balanced game and it would still be unplayable because of cheater infestation. A lot of the so-called “big issues” are just a byproduct of the game being infested with cheaters.

There is no denying that matchmaking in this game is total crap, but it would not be half as bad if there were no cheaters constantly ruining matches. Certain heroes would not seem so broken if they were not being constantly abused by cheaters giving everyone the impression that they are OP such as Cassidy or Illari. TTK would not be such an issue. Stomps would not be as common. A lot of ingame toxicity also comes from cheaters and people who experience terrible matches playing against them and venting in chat.

When discussing cheaters you also have to understand that there are a lot of shills/cheaters/trolls usually with many alts doing damage control and gaslighting on the forums trying to downplay the issue or ridicule anyone who tries to discuss it. Their usual rhetoric is:

“But cheating is not that bad.”

“All games have cheaters.”

“You have to accept/tolerate cheaters.”

“You can’t do anything against them.”

“You can just outplay them.”

“Skill issue/Git gud.”

“I played for X amount of time only encountered X amount of cheaters.”

“I’m in X rank I don’t encounter cheaters.”

“It’s just smurfs.”

“Cheaters are like soooooo hard to spot bro.”

“Cheaters are soooooo rare.”

“Post codes or cheaters don’t exist.”

“But they banned X amount of cheaters.”

Do not let yourself be gaslighted by them, trust your gut feeling and rationale. This game is full to the brim with cheaters, If actiblizz disclosed the actual number or percentage of cheaters in OW2 they would lose a significant portion of their legit player base in a few days. That is why they are doing damage control and using smoke screen tactics with those cosmetic “ban waves” once a year to show the legit players they are “working” and dealing with cheaters, while keeping the number of cheaters banned small enough to not discourage too many cheaters to leave OW2 because cheaters are good customers – they create new accounts even after being banned, they artificially inflate the player base number and they spend money on their alts. New cosmetics, heroes and maps are a good smokescreen to keep legits happy and more ignorant of cheaters and give them illusion that the game is not getting stale.

Pro tip: never take forum posters with 5-10K+ posts seriously.
