I know the ping talk has been spoken about a lot but I have experienced it only since the last few days so want to try track down why.
To Sum up, I usually get 18-20ms ping each game, but now I seem to be getting either 18-20ms ping some games and others around 68-80ms, which isn’t the worst, but when you are use to such low ping it makes it a really different experience.
Done ISP speed testers and restarting PC, not letting any other programs run etc but yeah any suggestion are welcome.
TIA
Speed tests just ping a server near you and don’t tell you anything about connection quality. If you’re in the US, it sounds like in some games you’re landing on the server closest to you, and in others, you’re landing on the other one. The US server locations are Los Angeles and Chicago. All players in North America can be matched to either server. Acceptable ping is considered 85ms or so and below.
If you’re outside the US, you may just have a different route to the server on some occasions, or maybe network congestion.
From what I’ve noticed over the years of playing, during certain times of the day, game availability based on rank is sometimes moved to a different server, as there aren’t enough people on your current one, or all games are already in play (usually resulting in a slightly longer que time, and generally only when que’d for DPS). I normally connect to the Chicago server (I think), but sometimes get put in games on the west coast.
Normally my ping is 28-34, but at times connected to the other servers it’s 78-92, agreed it’s not that bad, just annoying.
In short, it’s based on game availability in your region.
