I understand we need to boot people for being inactive. But like, if I’m moving my character towards the exit of the spawn room, and I still get kicked; there’s a freakin problem dude.
There needs to be some sort of compromise. Like give me a little speed boost or something, once the inactivity timer starts. So I can make it out in time.
I dunno how this is still an oversight in the year 2025

I dunno. I’ve been in games where we have fought for and lost the first point because someone is still sitting AFK in spawn and hasn’t been kicked yet.

A couple times this season, I’ve backfilled and it takes too long to load in, so I barely have a chance to get out of spawn. That’s a bit of an issue, but at the same time, I’ve also always managed to make it out before getting kicked.

I’ve had that happen a few times when I get backfilled. Like I’m trying to decide what hero to play based on my new team and the enemy team give me a few seconds

When any game starts, your given like 10-15 seconds before the “red” warning comes up on the screen, then once you move, it will basically shut off. That timer starts to dwindle the more your inactive throughout the match meaning you have to be constantly not moving, and it is popping up to the point of where it’s no longer resetting and then boots you out of the match even if you’re finally moving.
I would suggest stop not being so Inactive.

Don’t go AFK long enough to get that timer started. Don’t go do stuff while you’re in queue or between rounds.
The amount of structure in this game devoted to “please play the whole game and pay attention” bothers me because it indicates that even for a blip like 10 minutes we have to keep jingling keys to keep people on task.

I know, I hate that. This has happened to me multiple times, I will be running for the spawn room doorway, I can see it, then about a foot from the doorway, the timer hits “1” and I get yanked out like someone being disconnected from The Matrix. Its extremely annoying.
We should get “Overtime” like we are protesting the point or payload. Just an extra 5 seconds so we can make it out of that damn, enormous spawn room.

That’s not how it works at all!!

Exactly. The only time the AFK timer has ever popped up for me was many moons ago when there was a bug with it. People should never be seeing it in the first place.

This system is so bogus it’s not even funny. I’ve had matches where a player has stood still in spawn and opponents moved payload thru entire map.

Thats part of the issue. You dont know when the timer is going to start, and when it does, the 10 seconds given as the count-down is not enough time to completely leave the spawn room before getting kicked.

I get it loading into backfill games FROM THE VERY INSTANT I LOAD IN from time to time. Not a lot, maybe 4 or 5 times in 50. But often enough to be exasperated by it.
I have to pick any hero, leave the spawn to kill the timer, then go back into spawn to evaluate team como and make a decent hero choice.
And that’s assuming I don’t get kicked because the timer started at 4 or 5 instead of 10 or whatever.
The blasted thing is just broken. Flat out brokem

I’ve never had this happen. Not once.

Ive noticed when I am backfill. i have a shorter amount of time until the dreaded 10 second timer countdown starts, which sucks, cause I need extra time to make a hero selection (depending on the status of the match). You would think backfills would get extra grace. Nope. Very frustrating.

Some people just..load in later than others
Such as me, I play on an Xbox 1, so there have been moments where by the time I loaded in, and figured out who I should play (by figuring out my teammates) then figuring out who I want to play (by picking a character) I’ll get the timer
If I’m backfilling, I’ll wind up with less time, and throw myself out as a random character.
I have never seen the timer.. ever. Now I’ll give you that I have a computer on the high side of specs, I don’t know what console is like, and I know within maybe 2 seconds what I want to play on any given role.
But I wonder just how much of this is “I was getting a drink/looking at youtube/talking to friends”.
I’m reasonably sure that I do know when the timer is going to start and it’s once the game thinks I’ve been in for too long without moving such as it just plopped me into a backfill. BUT.. since I’m sitting there with the screen open and giving it at least half my attention, I have never had it start counting down and I have my character picked and am going out the door within maybe 5 seconds.
We get map votes, then maybe 10-20 seconds of character choice, then another 30 seconds or so of doodling around in the spawn. Does it take that long for everyone else to load?
So there are two layers to this system, one timer that will deactivate on movement. And another longer timer if you don’t engage in combat for an extended period.
As in not only did you reset the initial timer by moving, but you continued to wait till the point the game was forced to consider you a thrower propper.
Of course their are a handfull of scenario’s where the timer could kick in while loading into the lobby, but at that point that’s an issue with your connection taking waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to long to connect and at that point it’s not the games fault.

That is accurate. Id say the main issue is specifically on backfills, as in having too little time to choose a hero then leave the spawn room. Many times, I barely have enough time for those actions. On somewhat rare occassions, I get kicked for “inactivity”.
In a normal match, theres definitely enough time to choose a hero, diddle around in the spawn room then leave the spawn room without the 10-sec kick timer starting. I just wish the timer for both situations started at 15 seconds. Those extra 5 seconds would make a world of difference.
My matches load pretty quickly but making decisions like who to play and how to navigate the zig-zag hallway maze of certain spawn rooms takes more time than 10 seconds.
Trust me, there not staying still in spawn. Their camping in there and moving mouse or stick just a little to stop timer from popping up.
Same! Not to mention, that whenever I am thrown into ongoing match, my game is laggy as heck, or completely freezes, so I literaly CAN´T move any faster. And it´s problem on your side, so at least fix the timer, if you can´t fix the game.
