Note that Overbuff considers Sym to be a support in all of the data.
Back in January of 2017 you had the following pickrates:
- DPS: 54.67%
- Tank: 23.02%
- Support: 22.31%
The archive does not have another data point until March 29 2018
- DPS: 55.82%
- Support: 24.55%
- Tank: 19.63%
June 19th 2018 before private profiles came out the data was:
- DPS: 52.15%
- Support 27.75%
- Tank 20.09%
July 21st 2018 before Hammond’s release the data was:
- DPS: 48.78%
- Support: 30.03%
- Tank: 21.19%
August 7th 2018 right before the support balance patch had the following data:
- DPS: 49.45%
- Support: 30.23%
- Tank: 20.33%
September 11th 2018 around a month after the support balance patch had the following data:
- DPS: 49.14%
- Support: 29.83%
- Tank: 21.02%
November 6th 2018 right before Ashe’s release had the following stats:

So, since January 6th 2017:
- Tanks with an addition of two heroes are up .06%
- Supports with an addition of three heroes are up 10.08%
- DPS with an addition of two heroes are down 10.14%
I’m curious if the increase in tanks and supports over the past year has increased the expectation for them and made people feel their absence more.
TLDR:
Pickrates of supports appear to have been gradually increasing since data was first recorded.
Pickrates of tanks appear to have dropped then risen back to where they were before.
Hero releases do not appear to be bringing people to the role in question in QP for any extended period of time.
