In hindsight OW didn't deserve GOTY awards

Because the game that won it has been gone for years. OW has gotten worse every year since 2019 and isn’t nearly as good as Dark Souls 3, Uncharted 4 or Doom 2016 were. When people go back and look at GOTY awards throughout history this one is going to stick out like a sore thumb as the most baffling pick of all and Blizzard is entirely to blame for it.

That is not how awards are determined… It did deserve them, at the time.

Doesn’t it get tiring to be so negative? I can’t fathom hanging around something I hated so much.

You’re confusing GOTY with masterpiece. A masterpiece is eternal. A GOTY is restricted to that year. That’s all.

I don’t think they would have given it those awards if they knew how bad the game would later become. Most games that win GOTY awards don’t deteriorate in quality like this one did.

What does Elden Ring have to do with this thread?

Well OW1 was good in 2016. Just not after that.
This is why it is not taking GOTY in 2022.

That is a risk of all live service games, to be fair. Of course it would not win any awards now unless they had one for most mismanaged game. It is not as though people are clairvoyant, and Game of the Year awards are not exactly super prestigious to begin with.

If awards worked like that then they’d be completely meaningless.

That’s… not how it works

Is your daily reminder that Overwatch still has issues from its 2015 days in beta.

OW1 still has the same bad path prediction from 2015, and will still honor any shot(s), on said bad predictions. That’s why you can die in places you weren’t in.

just read the future 4head /s
but seriously, GOTY awards are typically granted to games that did good that year (though it is typically for games early in the year, since lets say a game launched in december, it would be hard for it to get an award since it came out at the end of the year)

Ya, I dunno. I think I’m just starting to accept OP will take whatever they can to stir the pot before he logs on Destiny for the day, feeling accomplished.

Do you not get bored of just spreading negativity all day every day on the forums? Your post count is pretty damn crazy for 2 months.

Basically this. If I can’t invest hype, fell-in-love-with-it energy, then I just invest enough energy to have fun while I play it. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s not worth the attention or outrage. It’s not a crusade to be fought and won. It’s not a protest in the streets for a just cause. It’s not ordering a chicken wrap from mcdonalds just to find they don’t actually wrap the damn thing, they just fold the edges over and it’s open on both ends and you have to order extra mayo because it’s so damn dry-… wow, that was close.

But anyway, OP isn’t here for any of that, he’s here to cause thread drama.

One might say he… shills negativity.

reminds me though, if you havent and you can? give cyberpunk another try, or if you have, give it a revisit, its pretty fun.

I’ve purposely been holding off since the beginning to try it. I’ve been keeping tabs and it looks like it’s almost worth the time of day for me.

Lately though I’ve been playing FF14, The Isle (who doesnt wanna be a dinosaur?), some retro games…

FF14 seems neat but none of my friends play MMOs :frowning:
