Improving Sombra's Hack

Sombra’s hack is too easy to pull off for how effective it is and how quickly its cooldown passes. It instantly locks on and tracks players through blink, dash, and other mobility skills that should allow them to escape the hack (sometimes even out of line of sight) but also randomly breaks. What if it were changed to operate like Tracer’s pulse bomb (i.e. a small package that was thrown and placed on enemies)? It would require more skill to pull off hacks but also be more rewarding since the package could have a small AOE and would not have breaking issues since once it’s stuck it’s stuck.

Sounds terrible and convoluted.

It just needs targeting improvements, and most of the problems with it are detrimental to Sombra.

Hack can randomly re-target mid hack if someone other than your original target remains in the center of your crosshair.

It’s almost impossible to hack a player standing on a medkit, because the kit has a MUCH larger hitbox and will prevent locking on to the player.

I don’t feel like I get hacked out of LoS much any more, but I still VERY regularly get hacked and even EMP’d while ice blocked as Mei. It’s infuriating.

First off it breaks through blinks and such.
Second off, it does need fixes, but not only LoS changes, the 2 second cooldown hotfix needs to be removed. Even if they just removed the 2 sec cooldown, she’d be in a better place.

I play at 60 ping and I’ve never had hack break while blinking as tracer. If I get a killcam after that I can watch it track. Is that really an anomaly?

A package with small AOE would take care of the issue with hacking a player on a healthpack since you’d get both.

It would also be much more reliable provided Sombra can actually aim and not just hold right click on someone until they drop a shield/etc.

No it does not. Being able to hold down right click forever and forcing people to essentially never stop shooting you is terrible design.

I’m curious what a better place would actually look like. Sombra can already stay invisible forever. She has a translocator that doesn’t time out. Her hack is on a small cooldown and is trivial to pull off without much risk. Her gun still does great damage at close range and has a large clip. Even without invis, Sombra is hard to kill as a traditional DPS because of translocator. It’s an overall very effective kit that’s never fun to play against even if it’s fun to play. Not sure buffs would help that.

Favour the shooter is most likely the problem you’re experiencing with hack and blink interactions.

Sombras hack does brake on mobility abilities due to bugs, but its supposed to track you through them, if you keep line of sight.
Sombras hack does take skill, because it gets canceled via 1 point of damage, which means you need set up and timing to pull it off and pray it doesnt cancel on nothing.

Terrible idea, but if this mean that I can hack more than one enemy outside EMP, then I am all for it

unless tracer blink out LOS hack won’t break during blink, it only breaks when she recall.

after 2 secs hot fix it has been announced as a bug that blink break a hack and they “fixed” it.

so no, it’s not a ping issue, don’t worry.

Ez to pull off? It has loud noise when you get hacked so you can react. It has 15 meter range and require tracking to finish (yes, just having enemy on the screen isn’t enough). Hack can randomly retarget. It’s hard to target someone in crowd.

Most of the time it’s way more effective NOT to use it (unless you face someone who has great escape/anti-dive abilities, like new torb or mei or reaper)

Sounds Terrable:

  1. Hack is not easy to use it takes Positioning skills and timing to pull of.

  2. There is still a bug that cancles Hack on Dashes and Blinks

  3. It instandly breaks when Los Breaks any issue that seems to let her Hack throug walls is a Latency/Favior the Shooter which also everything else falls under.

What are you talking about? It doesn’t track players through Blink and similar abilities. You have no idea how hard it is to hack a Tracer who keeps Blinking around.

You can literally sit invisible behind enemies until it’s convenient to try a hack. Positioning is not a skill when you can get wherever you want to go while invisible and use a teleporter of sorts to get there too.

Also, players reacting to hack is basically a non-issue unless you hack them right in their faces. The effective time of hack is too quick for anyone to turn around and damage you, especially if you are above them or diagonally behind them instead of straight behind unless you’re too close when you’re hacking someone with AOE like winston or ana in which case you still sometimes force out a valuable cooldown for something you get back almost immediately. You can find these discussions everywhere. In general, no one is arguing that you can actually react to it and prevent it; people are arguing that not being able to react and cancel hack is intentional.
