interesting. i always look to see if they will address it. im hoping they do. press x to doubt though.
Pressing X for doubt
which is funny for them to not pretend to see this as this has the most views from any thread not made by them lol
So you feel a company can’t/shouldn’t offer products that are, for one reason or another, outside the price range of some portion of the population?
The OP even has nearly twice as many likes as the post announcing this Defense Matrix thing in the first place.
Please argue with me, what sense does it make to bar people from a FREE TO PLAY game because of their choice of a cellular service.
That part, louder for those in the nosebleed seats
My thoughts personally?
People had complained that they couldn’t get officer D.va skin to play HoTS because they did not own a computer despite the majority of Overwatch players having a pc. If the majority of players had a PC yet still had Blizz cave in and give her in lootboxes because the “minority” was vocal enough about it and they changed it.
So yeah, I do.
plus, this is WAY more involved than a mere skin. 2x’s that.
Do you realize it’s not a company’s goal, nor should it be, to get their product into the hands of every person on Earth? The fact that the game is free to play has nothing to do with the associated requirements for playing. They value anti-smurf measures more than they do complete and total accessibility, and that’s their right.
why did they give in to the d.va skin then? why didn’t they just say “oh well, no pc? you are the minority, your loss”
This is the most short sighted answer, I’ve seen. You do understand that even Valorant’s Vanguard isn’t perfect and they still have smurf and cheaters. Same with COD and Warzone, WHICH IS BLIZZARD/ACTIVISON USING THEIR OWN SMS SYSTEM. This is a bandaid to a bigger problem that alienates a large pool of consumers vs a smaller pool of smurfs. Sacrificing others just for the majority shouldn’t be a bloody company standard, especially for a “Accessible, Diverse F2P experience.”
It does though because if the requirement is money now than I might as will pay 60 bucks for the game? It is not FREE to start for all that is the problem. For some ys, for othrs no. Both pre paids and post are paying so why must on get in over the other?
I can play Pokmon unite, a f2p mobil game that’s also on switch right now without any problems or issues. I can play Apex as well.
I will say, them going F2P means they can make their own rules sure, but it doesn’t make them morally correct nor by consumer standard, right especially if money involved with a service provider that is needed.
Frankly, I would rather shill 60 USD for the game so I can have the content and be able to play with a product code, than be barred for using prepaid service because it makes my life easier and hassle free.
I’m unclear on what you’re saying. Blizzard cannot guarantee that every person is able to play or participate, nor should they have to guarantee that. I can dislike that some product is priced outside of my reach or has requirements I can’t meet, but how is the company selling that product to blame? In that case, it’s just a mismatch between the product and the consumer.
I don’t see how this is relevant. Instead of trying to conflate two different events together, let’s just discuss the phone policy shall we?
If Overwatch is going to expand its business as an e-sport in the future,
They have to open up their frontage to all users.
Games that screen users by their cell phone numbers should never be allowed as e-sports.
It be one thing if it were due to the processing power of the game or other limitations due to power or price. However, this is a free to play game.
FREE
TO
PLAY.
You are still dancing around the fact they have NO GOOD EXCUSE to limit prepaid consumers. THEY ARE PURPOSELY LIMITING CONSUMERS and giving no good reason other than for anti-smurfing when numerous systems in example have be exploited, EVEN THEIR OWN (See COD and Warzone)
If you are advertising this game free to play and opening up for more players to come to your platform. To give accessibility and diversity in the way you play. Because a F2P model needs players to survive. Not only that but to gain viewership for your content and ESPORTS, its logically makes no sense to alienate 1/3rd of your consumer base.
The game IS free to play, but what you’re saying is akin to saying “I don’t have the money to pay for electricity, and yet Blizzard says this game is free to play! How is it free to play if I need electricity?”
And this is not a question of morals, it’s a question of what Blizzard places a higher priority on: universal access or competitive integrity, and since the former negates the latter, they cannot rationally offer both.
Sorry, ahh let me explain.
Your initial debate was that they cannot appeal to everyone, yes? That is not their job which to say?
So, I am not sure if you were playing OW years ago but their was an event for the officer d.va skin that was only obtainable through Hots (heroes of the storm) a free game you can download via launcher and win some games to achieve her. You had to have a PC to play. The problem? Despite the majority of players being PC owners, everyone said it was “unfair” because they didn’t own one and becuas of this Blizz later added her for free to lootboxes.
Hmm… So this would mean the minority was complaining? Yes, if the majority of people are PC owners, then they gave in said “yopu ar right this isn’t fair” and they did what was right for the community by offering her up DESPITE if it was the minority or not.
So, according to your logic, if not everyone matters, why didn’t Blizz just say “Oh well, no pc, no service?” to those whining for the D.Va skin?
I am gonna ask you a question. Can a normal human, under normal circumstances that they own a home, need electricity to survive?
Yes. That is a necessity. Most will tell you it is.
A PHONE is not. A huge difference.
A PC is not a necessity either.
Water, sewage, and electricity is a necessity to survive unless you are the 1 percent living off the grid.
comparing a want to a need is apples and oranges.
we all don’t need phones, we all don’t need games, but here we are, so in that case, it is easily debatable specially if people had spent money on them.
