Im the same way. i don’t care whether i win or loose on Qp or arcade. It doesn’t mean i don’t try my best but it’s water off a ducks back for me. i have nothing to loose. comp though you loose Sr and rank, hence the competitiveness as well as a shot at the big leagues or other competitions. One is serious and the other is for meh, at least, in my eyes.
It was shown that OW2 would require phones back in mid-June, though it wasn’t brought to light by Blizzard themselves, but some players stumbling upon it.
“Internet connection, Battle.net® desktop application, and Battle.net® Account required to play. A mobile phone number must be linked to your Battle.net® Account to play Overwatch® 2.”
You have very little legal leverage, but try it if you feel you have a shot. For Watchpoint buyers, Blizzard did offer full refunds for them when it was revealed characters would be behind battle pass. Has that timeline passed?
Dominance
If you can’t afford a phone number blizzard doesn’t care because you aren’t their target customer.
They want people with phone numbers, credit cards, and disposable income.
We tried to warn you all that this wasn’t about making overwatch more available.
This is about making as much money off of overwatch as possible.
I have prepaid because the phone contracts in my area are all twice the price of prepaid, and I have to afford three phone lines on minimum wage and disability payments. Given how many people I know of in my friend group alone who can’t afford “proper” phone plans, I have no doubt that it’ll be keeping a LOT of people out of the game.
Because he can buy two pcs or consoles that means he should now have to pay a phone subscription each month just to play a game? A phone number he wouldn’t even be ready to give to his son. Nah you weren’t lost on “whatever reason is not your business” you are lost in deep space my guy.
ive been trying for years to get blizzard to accept my phone, all because i wanted extra bag space in WoW. surprise, buddy, not everyone has an elite phone provider. I use cricket because its the cheapest provider there is. imagine shunning the playerbase over this.
That right there is all that truly matters.
And yes, I know that it doesn’t affect me, and that’s why I don’t care. I’m very aware of that. You’re quoting me like I’m saying others should feel the same way as I do, or I lack the ability to understand that.
Not sure why you haven’t read between the obvious lines of me referencing the ridiculous notions of why some would say other players shouldn’t be upset about this, or even the fact that I said (in the very post you quoted mind you), I’m not in favor of this…
Anyway, people are going to be upset no matter what happens. Do I think they’re making a heavy handed move? Sure do. Do I think it will likely hurt them in the long run? Possibly. Do I care? Not really. Do I think you should feel the same? I couldn’t care less what you feel about this. If they changed it to the way you’d like I wouldn’t mind either way.
I’ll stick around, long as I’m having fun, then make haste if I don’t derive enough pleasure from my experience in any video game.
Most people on here have a phone.
It’s just Blizzard refuses to accept certain phone numbers attached to those phones however. Those people are then forced to pay for a new phone plan to appease those of very little intellect that work for Blizzard.
Those who are of lesser intellect support Blizzard in their oh-so-wise decision are the only ones supporting this idea.
He still has legal leverage. The statement says he needs a mobile phone number, yes, but it doesn’t mention anything about how it needs specific phone numbers or how his phone number may be deemed invalid, forcing him to spend more to play the supposed F2P game.
I sympathize with them as well. But, at the same time, it’s kind of like…I don’t want my gaming experience to be worse, because they can’t afford a phone. Ya know?
I mean, someone coming to the forums and saying “I don’t like this because I can’t afford it,” um, okay? I sympathize. Now, moving on…
It’s kind of hard NOT to be dismissive.
They should just get more money.
I agree this is all a bit much.
I, myself will not be affected, neither will my husband but individuals like my two children and their cousins will. We the parent’s can’t add our number to their account, which is silly.
They need to set up a system for teens and children especially to allow them to at least play QP, arcade and custom games. Only competitive should be blocked for those without cell phones.
Honestly they should have been up-front with everyone about this sooner rather than a week before launch.
Oh damn thats tough indeed. I know Blizzard is issuing them because we’ve seen people here posting it.
Amidst all the inconvenience, it has been heartwarming to learn how many families play OW together from this fiasco. My parents stopped gaming after Pacman…gosh bless em.
Just gonna add my name to the pile.
I hope terrible things happen to you, Blizzard.
My boyfriend has been playing OW since the beginning but we both use my ONE phone. Guess what was good enough for OW1 isn’t good enough for your iNcLuSiVe OW2.
Blizzard have had my phone number for five years. I haven’t gotten so much as a text. Let alone a call. I honestly forgot I had attached one.
I’m sorry, but here it seems to me that adding the need for a telephone number is more demanding than paying the monthly requirement to have an electricity and an internet connection. People with REAL economic problems think of anything but video games, why do we have to bring out this kind of tragedy?
I’m honest, I don’t think I understand the technical difference between prepaid and correct mobile number (in Italy we don’t have this kind of differences), but we all know that OW1 had SERIOUS problems of smurfing and cheating. we are not at the levels of the Real ID of 2010 (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, google what happened in two months on ALL blizzard games), but this situation reminds me enough of Diablo 3 in 2012: an era in which the internet was not as widespread as it is now and a video game that required continuous online connection. I remember the protests around this “absurd request, I don’t have this online service”. I understand that there are different inconveniences for different parts of the world but … between having a telephone number and an internet connection, what is stranger not knowing how to solve b in 2022?
this is a correct fear. We often see Blizzard servers receiving DDOS attacks, and if they sometimes coincide with strange emails, I don’t know if there were some cyber attacks via sms.
Cannot WAIT for the 1 Hour Que times Event that arrives Oct 4th
I am convinced OW2 is DOA now no matter how much I wanted to get excited denying everyone quitting over 5v5 or Battle Pass NEW Heroes hidden behind Paywall.
The nail in the coffin will be the Que times due to unrelated Cellular Phones…… orz
Actually, a company that releases F2P games expect the exact opposite : make more money than they would have if the game had been P2P. They don’t care about people that can’t afford a phone that isn’t pre-paid. Turning OW1 into a F2P model wasn’t done in order to help people with empty bank accounts, yet to make max profit 'cause they envy other companies and franchise like Fornite, Valorant or any aggressive P2W mobile game.
They want the money first. People enjoying the game comes after. Shifting from P2P to F2P is not an innocent change / move, no matter how a lot of people on these forums try to say otherwise. It’s a complete mindset change for the franchise and all the concerns people have is only the beginning of more restrictions and annoying features to come.
