If your ping is too high, you’re not allowed to queue.
Rip 90% of the playerbase. Not every country has a server close by.
That would remove a sizeable chunk of the playerbase because Blizz has been steadily removing server nodes from a lot of places to cut corners with maintenance costs.
Also, not everyone is fortunate to live in the server room and get 1ms. And what is “too high” anyway?
There is no country that have 500 ms to any other country.

Legit throwing if you join games with that ping.
Read my second post. Besides, ping spikes can still happen mid game. So ping checking prior is pointless.
Spikes don’t last.
This guy was playing at 500 ms through the whole game and was complaining about it the whole game, yet he queued up. It’s impossible to miss that your internet isn’t working properly when it’s at 500 ms. There really is no reason why someone with that high ping should be allowed to join games, you’re playing 4v5 with them in the game.
It’s still pointless to have a ping check. Not going to change someone randomly getting high ping and disconnecting entirely, never to come back. The result is the same. 4v5.
Actually its entirely possible.
Its all about how your ISP connects you to a game’s server. Your internet connection is actually several smaller pathways that connect to certain clusters. Its like a tree.
I remember a few years ago when my internet ran perfect for everything but WoW, where I had around 3k latency all day. No spikes. Constant. The month before it was my usual 70 all day.
And it was all because my ISP did some terrible rerouting of my connection to the game servers. I had to fight for a month for a real technician and not a call center person to take my case and see that it was fixed.
No, it’s not pointless. It would stop these people from ruining games by joining when they will clearly be unable to play properly due to the ping. There’s absolutely zero reason why you should allow someone with 500 ping into the game.
