Your rating depends only on winning and losing. Not the final score, not your results in the match. You gave it your all, but your team didn’t - you lost. Well, it’s a team game, lol. And if you fed the whole game, but your team pulled it off - get a promotion, you deserve it
Er, isn’t that basically how it is now? Rivals is the game where the scoreboard plays a part in how much SR you gain or lose per match; OW tried that and dropped it a long time ago.
In Max 2 Tank Comp, I basically gain or lose 20-25% of a rank per match. In Rivals there’s more variance.
But I don’t pay a lot of attention to how the matchmaker works, so maybe I missed an OW announcement or something.
Because in MR they tried to make a fair system where you are rewarded for all your actions in the game, and not just the end of the game. It turns out that even if your allies were the reason for the defeat, you, having shown your result, keep more of your rating points. And here, well, the game is team - team. Win - get points. Lose - lose. It’s simple. Why take into account your skill? Ha, the Rating is the same, so you are to blame for the defeat! (Although everyone understands that it means little with this approach). If you want to rise - either drag the whole team, or wait until you are thrown honest enemies and allies. Although this should be anyway, because this is why you go to the rating.
It should be mostly based on this with small +/- changes. Climbing should be a grind that takes many wins. Not just stat farming with bad heroes to get boosted.
If everyone on the team has top stats, they will win. No?
On the other hand, win up lose down isn’t a fair system for lower ranks where players skillsets are too varied. I’ve been in gold since season… 8? Maybe 9? Of ow1. And there is a clear discrepancy between my teammates knowledge of the game and my own. I’m not saying I deserve a higher rank at all, I’ve given up on climbing because win up lose down is a horrible system. But I sure as heck do not deserve to have brand new players who barely know what any heroes do on my team XD
As it should.
Lol definitely not. This is an objective based game so stats mean very little. It is very common for team woth worse stats to win.
Basing it on wins and losses is equally fair to everyone.
Stats based system did not work in ow1, and doesnt work in MR as is.
Yes? What about the capture point fight stat? That’s a stat too. If it’s top. It’s unfair to judge by victory alone anyway.
Not necessarily. Performance based SR used to be a thing in early OW1 and it was scrapped because it encouraged players to stat farm rather than win.
Stupid. So if a DPS fight farms damage and kills, then that’s bad. Better let him farm deaths and lose the game to everyone, right?
Ive never heard of a “capture point fight stat” just time spent on objective. Which definitely should not award rank otherwise you will have 5 people sitting on point every fight instead of taking space.
I heard you. You are from the camp of those who like everything. Your opinion is not important to me here then.
It is frustrating when you fall low enough. In the past, at my nadir, I was a stone’s throw away from going into bronze. And it sucks because not only do you get 2-15 Lucios on your team but you get the people with wonky connections, ragequitters, and people who go bright red in the face and start crying because a support didn’t go Mercy and hard pocket them.
But over time, I have slowly, slowly, slowly worked my way up to plat 2. I feel like a bit of a fraud, if we’re being honest. I think that if you were to polish my rank badge, the paint would come off to reveal the true silver underneath. However, there are ways of making a difference, securing a victory, and climbing even without performance-based voodoo going on. When it comes to plonkers and jerks screwing their team over, it happens to both red and blue team so it eventually evens out in an unhappy, imperfect, undesirable sort of way.
There’s probably some sort of middle ground somewhere. It’d be dead tricky, though, and I’m not sure it’d be worth the growing pains.
No rather you’d see things like instead of dying early to reset and group up players would intentionally feed and stagger the fight. Just to farm stats because it would lead to more sr gains for a win or less for a loss.
Lmao… Me? Liking everything? Thats an interesting take. Especially in response to me not liking your idea of stat based scoring.
Regardless it was tried in OW1 and failed miserably. Yes there needs to be a way for individual performance to effect your rank, but it cannot be directly tied to any specific stat otherwise people focus on stat farming instead of winning which is why it failed the first time. So unless they are going to have someone (human/ai) watch every single game to judge things that actually matter(positioning, teamwork, game sense, etc…) then win/loss rankings are best option for now.
I don’t have a clear system. I’m just saying that it would be fair to take stats into account. I’m not saying that I should get points for losing. At least let the decrease be smaller, let there be a bonus for the score
Yes and to have such a system that actually worked “fair” is very very hard to implement.
So far neither mr or ow succeeded in that and its just better and simpler to not have one, than have a bad implementation.
there is way too much context behind the stats which purely looking at stats will not see.
