Trash talk is part of any great competetive scene.
People do it to basically say “bring your best, and earn my respect”
Players that do, not only respect the trash talk, but they know it’s not personal, and both players walk away with a mutual HIGHER respect for each other.
People in this game could report you for calling them a doo doo head, trash talk varies because most of the time it’s funny, it’s meant to tilt you so all the people being upset about it took their bait. Knowing this community trash talk is never ever gonna be “normalized” to a respected standard

NBA players get ejected for just looking at the refs wrong. Current NBA is trash
Imagine if OW had a punishment system like the NBA’s where you would be banned (fined in NBA) for complaining about things like matchmaking (refs)

OK, but even ranked Overwatch isn’t the NBA. You want to compare it to the NBA you should be talking about OWCS.
If I played a beer league basketball game I would expect players from both teams to treat each other with respect.
If the NBA had a Blizzard banning system their would be no NBA left.
But i guess these are tough and macho men , far less sensitive than your average Overwatch player.
Trash talk is lame and people absolutely mean what they say over here in Overwatch. There is no value or entertainment to be gained from someone berating their own team like a child, nor from someone playing an overpowered or easy character thinking they’re good.
All it does is make people want to throw or turn off the chat
Imagine thinking overwatch is the NBA, or that the NBA is filled with children you don’t need to be insulting?
You’re not playing in the NBA, you’re playing a quickplay game. And your respect is worthless, 'cause you’re just a random stranger in every lobby you’re in.

The NBA (or any real life activity) has consequences in place for poor sportsmanship in the form of a penalty or an elbow to the face.

I doubt anybody in the NBA would tell another play to kill themselves. The level of professionalism in Overwatch is zero. This will never not be the case.
I could see the bad boy pistons saying that stuff. But then again everyone hated them for a reason 
Once said, “Man, this sucks,” when getting rolled in OW1. Got silenced.
Better to just skip the figurative middle man and just stay out of all comms.
Idk about the nba, but in the nfl players get fines for misbehaving. Penalties for showing off too much. I’m sure the OP would like to be given fines instead of bans.
Then they come to the forum and whine that nobody is in VC anymore. It must be because everyone is just as scared of being banned as they are. It’s the only explanation that makes sense /s
Yeah, that’s why there are never any fights in sports because of trash talk. No fights in ice hockey, “real” hockey, american football, “real” football, basketball, etc. Never any fights because of trash talk. Proves you are right. Or, wait, didn’t I see a fight in almost every hockey match I ever watched? Hmm.
