We are punishing thousands of hard working people at a company that would have to be laid off because everyone is against Activision Blizzard and wants to boycott their games.
The cancel culture is getting out of control. We need to hold the management of the company accountable and fix things but we also need to move on.
Edit: some people are saying that I’m trolling but to provide some context , these are thoughts that came to my head when I read that Pokimane was asking her viewers to boycott Activision Blizzard.
So if someone at mcdonalds spits in your food, everyone who works for mcdonalds is judged, punished, and exiled?
Blizzard consists of thousands and thousands of employees across the board. Very few people even knew what was even going on while the rest are just regular people who work, get a paycheck, and pay their bills so they can feed their family. Or is this a hard concept for you to understand?
1 person does not = everyone.
10 people does not = everyone.
100 people do not equal everyone.
Team 4 specifically was at least mostly clean from what we’ve heard, and Jeff literally was the complete opposite of what is going on, he defended his team instead of let the behavior slide.
Boycotting Blizzard as a whole punishes Team 4 for literally doing nothing wrong, since everything trickles down, boycott the company, every game suffers.
Yes, it’s important to hold those responsible accountable such as Kotick, the Board and whoever engaged in those activities, but to put everyone on the guillotine for a few freaks is wrong.
who is even bashing team 4?? i’ve barely seen anyone do that. i’ve mainly seen people bash blizzard, WoW and kotick which is deserved because those are the places where this all happened
also, of course i understand this. but what you fail to realize is that people like me are talking about this of, say it with me, NOT TEAM 4 BUT BLIZZARD AND WOW THEMSELVES
I think they’re moreso referencing the “Boycott Blizzard” movements that have been a frequency as of recent.
You forget, this is the internet, there are sheep, there are idiots.
Someone hears “Blizzard did X Scandalous affair” and the person who was told that immediately assumes every department of blizzard is responsible due to lack of context.
That’s more to a fault of people not providing enough context and misinformation spreading. Misinformation spreads like wildfire in a landscape with no filtering of it.
Basic, and I mean, Basic wisdom talks about this as well. In fact, common sense would state that you do not murder an entire city because you are after one man. You do not punish an entire village over the doings of 5 men.
Walkouts are fine and actively demonstrate disdain, not questioning those.
Boycotts are useless in not only that sense but in the fact that it puts everyone at Blizzard in jeopardy, not just the creeps. The Board of Directors would rather fire a ton of lower branch workers than actually address the concerns that lead to the loss of profit in the first place.
A corporation consists of many moving parts, many sections, many employees.
In fact, there is not a single company out there that has not had bad apples in them. Terrible things are done every day by poor and rich alike. these people work for [INSERT COMPANY NAME HERE]
I remember once, my boss was arrested for something unforgivable. I did not even have a clue and I talked to my boss daily. Turns out, 3 other employees were involved as well.
Now, imagine me losing my job because of someone elses wrong doings or simply because cancel culture was to ctrl-alt-delete the entire company over a few bad apples.
How would you feel if you lost your job because of people you did not even know?
100% agree, that’s why even in dbd there was a “dead by boycott” or whatever where you don’t buy anything from dbd so it effects BHVR because they look like they barely pay attention to dbd. theoretically it could’ve worked if 100% of people were in it, but not many were, so it was useless and grew out of popularity
This is what the majority of people participating in boycotts don’t realize. A -10 or -15% profit margin won’t force anyones hand more than it will lead to mass layoffs of lower branch workers.
The profit loss needs to hit so hard that it would directly impact the highest branch significantly. After all, they can fire a lot of people, but can’t fire everyone.
that’s the thing, i agree that cancel culture is toxic and a really bad thing to this day, however what we really want is to remove kotick and replace the staff members that were involved in all of the bad stuff (example would be a lot, but not all, of the WoW team) and have them install a new policy that would prevent this stuff.
like abolishing the ability to bring beer into work without no consequence (yes it’s a thing in blizzard) while other companies might fire you on the first offense. i know not all of it can be prevented just by a polic (because it’s life), but helping to prevent it would be a good thing. especially getting rid of the frat culture in blizzard
What we need is to get real gamers back into the company and have them run these projects instead of the marketing teams and share holders. There are very few left anymore. The ones who are left have their hands tied by Marketing corporate jerks who only want to please shareholders and line their own pockets.
Quality has not been the goal for a long time when it comes to products. All everyone cares about is “How do we make the most money and keep making money?”
Money money money. the root of all evil.
Notice how these top men who did these terrible things are so rich they dont care? They will live the rest of their lives comfortable, even if they lose their jobs. Its terrible.
Money brings out a true persons personality and wants.
