Im totally demoralized in Silver

I played a year on console, built a PC and have been playing consistently for 6 months in silver league. I go up and then back down from 1500 to 1600, and can’t get out.

I’ll practice Zen and do well and heal and nab headshots and call out discord’s, get gold damage and healing, but I can’t heal a player who is playing Reinhardt for the first time and charges off the map 3 times and a Dva the next game who repeatedly flies into the enemy without us there, and loses mech over and over feeding enemy ult. The games I did win today had nice mic communication and felt like real games. I won three like that. The next 3 were no mics, one with that Rein, and one with that Dva, and it feels like this is how it will be. This is always how it is at this rank.

I’m watching top Zen videos, I’m getting the hang of aiming at 5 sensitivity and doing ok. I don’t know how to get out of this rank.

I want to be out aimed, out played by their teamwork, not lose to these tutorial esque bad moves that get left behind as the ranks get higher. What is the cure for this?

You deserve your rank and that goes for everyone including me.

I was hoping for actual help and not the standard sentence.

It’s like people go around the forums with that copied at the holster ready to fire from post to post and not contribute.

Yes, I’ve heard that before, like I said I’ve been playing this game a while. I was asking for help.

I have a few things I gotta talk about here so I’m gonna break them up.

Note: This is a copy of a post I’ve created already (so I don’t have to keep typing this out!). Sorry if anything I’ve mentioned here doesn’t necessarily apply to you!

Overbuff

  • Is not very reliable, especially with private profiles. Take the stats by a grain of salt!
  • Overbuff’s rankings are percentile. So that “Hero Rank” percentage doesn’t mean “Top 1%” it’s actually the opposite. 99% mean the top 1%.
  • With that being said, Overbuff inflates stats with SR, to stop GMs from smurfing in Bronze to boost their stats.

Elo Hell

  • You May have heard of this before. Elo Hell is when you are stuck in your skill tier and you believe you can climb out but you can’t due to teammates or other factors that you can’t control.
  • Bronze/Silver are honestly the only tiers that are truly “Elo Hell”. You often have to carry yourself out, which is why I suggest using the #looking-for-group-pc here on the forums (or the LFG system in game) to find decent teammates.
Alternatively, play Pharah and find a Mercy to pocket you! It’s no secret that Pharah causes havoc at the lower elos.

Ways That YOU Can Improve

  • An amazing way of learning by your mistakes is by recording your last game and watching it over to see what you could have done better. This could be:
  1. Did I push too far?
  2. Did I need to use my ult then?
  3. Am i in a bad position to protect my team/to get healed?

You should also ask yourself these questions in game.

  • Try to send a video of your gameplay into a YouTuber who does vod reviews. I suggest Stylosa:

The video I’ve linked has information on how to submit at the beginning!

Goodluck!

You can watch as many masters games as you want and learn theory and all that, but you still need to know how to play against the people at your rank. The enemy’s team is just as bad as yours, and you need to learn how to capitalize on that.

Zen may not be the best choice, simply because you cannot expect help from your team if you get dived.

wow wait to help how about you give him some actual advice? (shocker!)

Ive played mostly zen this season trying to get more endorsements. Ive went up about 1k sr over my normal rank.

You call out discords thats super good but if people arent following them you need to change what you place them on to adjust to their weird target priority.

When you see your team getting out of position or going in alone call it out as well. Players dont always realize when a fight is lost or that they arent saving their teammate they are instead running to their death. Dont be reluctant to tell them to get out or die right now so you can be together. Call them out directly “junkrat wait we are alone” “reaper dont go wait for rein”. If they overextend call it out. “Dont go outside i cant heal you out there”. ect

You arent going to win all the time. They arent going to listen all the time. They are fully strangers. You dont listen to them all the time either.

Even mentioning you have gold damage ever worries me and makes me think you arent making healing your priority. Im sure its the way you worded it but dont let zens fun dps make you an ineffective healer.

edit: when you cant give the orb to someone that needs it tell them. If pharah calls out for healing and is half health but you have to give the orb to junkrat call that out. “pharah i have to give the orb to junkrat just a second be safe”

I just got ahead fo myself😂

For advice pick brigitte and abuse her until you reach a rank where you teammates aren’t potato’s.

An average silver day for me:

  • Being blamed/reported every 2nd match at the game start for my pick/high level
  • Carrying the whole game and instead of endorsements i get reports for cheating
  • Bullying me for my name in every ranked game (I dont copy anyone, i havent seen GOTG movies/comics, i use this nickname everywhere because i like astronomy)
  • Hanzo/Sombra/Widow throwers (spraying and emoting on spawn) in every 3rd match

The silver is literally the elo hell and no one in this universe can change my mind.

Make use of the new LFG feature to find new friends you can work and communicate with. It’ll take a while to get a full 6-stack, but once you do, you should have better teammates.

At silver rank, even if you only have 4, with a good tank to help peel for you, a player you know will play Mercy, and a reliable dps, you should be able to do fine.

ok lol I only said that because it sounded like you were trying to be an a**

I think in theory you are correct. Overall we are similar. But I think the difference comes when you ask what are the odds both teams have someone who is trying out a hero in competitive for the first time, or Just doesn’t care because it’s silver.

I think generally most people want to win. The odds are much more likely that only one team will have a singular bad player, and as we all know if a game is 6v5 then it becomes extremely difficult.

Like I said, I did actually win 3 games today and then lost 3. The 3 won had mics and communication throughout and although not the best players cause we’re in silver, there was at least a base knowledge of game sense.

My issue is with climbing. Games with communication is how this game is meant to be played. If I only get 3 out of 6 games that are like this in silver then I’ll be stuck.

I’m willing to review your game play if you got any recorded, I’ll tell you what you can improve on. My discord is below:

I think that’s probably the key. Find and friend players who know what they’re doing and stack my odds in my favor.

ggokg I was in silver for about 2 seasons just like you and your going to find stupid players, throwers and such on. but your skill alone with some good teammates can get you out of silver but you have to put time into competitive. My best advice is to watch overanalyzed if you want help from you tubers but you got to keep playing comp

There’s been so many toxic people on the forums lately so maybe i caught their sickness, sorry😅

Hey thanks for the post. I only mentioned the damage due to one really good game. I try and heal as much as I can, and happened to get both top healing and damage that game while playing with a Moira. I often call out when I see someone alone or I am in not line of sight with them for orbs.

Hope is not a strategy…

Seriously dude, most people who want to improve their rank - practice, you have described Zen’s kit and told us you are practicing with most of his kit.

Your profile is not public (neither is mine - but I am not asking for help).

So what real help do you expect other than generic feedback on how to improve on Zen (which you could have googled for)?

The only other generic help I can provide, is practice some other heroes (perhaps you are - I can’t tell your profile is private…).

Actually I have seen some nice responses in here that will help rather than your post that doesn’t really help anyone and I think was only posted to make yourself feel something.

If you are truly below where you belong, instalock DPS and carry hard. I was stuck in silver in season 4 as Mercy. I just picked up Torb and climbed to mid gold super quick. I’m tempted to DPS again as having a torrid time lately.

When I view the killfeed and it’s red blue, red blue, red blue, red blue then I know that as a Mercy I’m totally screwed. She may be god tier at high levels, but when your DPS are rotten, get no kills and always run madly out of position and wonder why they’re not getting heals or rezzes. Well, you’re just shtt out of luck…

I see so many games where a team has a hard carry hero, with 70% KP, that wins it for their team. DPS skill level variance is absolutely bonkers at even the same SR at low elo.

In the last few months I’ve lost games badly at 1700 sr and won games quite convincingly at 2500 sr as support. Supporting gets easier as you rank up. Silver is often a death match shtt show. Silver players are often terrible. And it’s far easier to DPS terrible players to death than try to support them.

One bright side on you being good with Zen. I know how unforgiving he is with positioning. Think how great you’ll be as a Junkrat or other stupidly mobile hero. Staying alive will be a piece of cake.
