Im just making this so i can see what people think.
In general, im too shy to communicate with my team in voice chat.
I always listen to what they say,but i don’t speak.’
I can however talk with them in text chat.
That’s because im too shy.
And i don’t know what my parents would think about me just talking english (English isn’t my first language)
with strangers in the internet.
To be honest, they don’t understand absolutely anything about video games and definetly not online games.
But also, since english isn’t my first language, i have trouble speaking it. More specifically, with pronouncing words. Well, kinda?
I generally talk way too fast… and everyone usually has trouble understanding me.
Oh and also, im not a girl. No.
There you go. These are the reasons why i don’t communicate with people in OW.
Edit; thanks for the replies, but i also believe something.
I think shyness is one of the most common reasons why people dont communicate… I believe so.

You don’t need to speak if you don’t want to. Just listening is more than what a lot of people do anyway.
Well, then don’t talk. Nobody forces you to use a mic. You can win games even without communicating with your team. Some games are lost from the beginning and voice chat wouldn’t have changed the out come either way.

It’s a FSP, this is a strength. Best advice I can give you: you’re anonymous, you have no reason to be shy.

TBH same, My mom was kind of whut?? when I started to speak english on the mic but she does not really care so yours prob won’t either, and you don’t really need to use mic to win, I been able to win plenty of game without it but you sometime wish you had it just to tell your team some shot callings, especially since I mostly play healer and notice things on the back like that pesky sombra or tracer
I think communication is very valuable in Overwatch, I understand where you’re coming from but even a simple “Reaper behind” or “Mercy 1” can go a long way.
That being said, just being in voice chat is still good. It means you can still work with your team and with the communication wheel you usually have enough to coordinate with your team
It’s not something you have to do if you aren’t comfortable with it but at the same time you can take baby steps to becoming more comfortable with it
english isnt my first language too but i use voice chat even tho i mess up sometimes
dont be shy you are anonymous no body knows who you are just speak freely enjoy the game
it really feels great when you are shot calling with your team feels really competitive good and well deserved
id advice you to use voice chat but you dont have to its your choice i prefer using it in most cases
Well i think you misunderstood that.
Example what im trying to say : McCree on low health
What i will sound like when i say it : McCrolowhelt

Still a callout, but as said before you dont need to use mic.
You could always do slow callouts like say the essentials, try to shorten your calls.
Well im still too shy to make those…
its not so easy… for me.

Then take your time, you will find confidence as it passes. Or gather friends, find them, make new ones that speak English as well.
Actually i did communicate with one of my friends a long time ago when we played together in comp.
I would tell him that i have bubble and he can be a bit more risky and i would help him. But we spoke the same language. And ive known him for a long time, in real life.
I had the same issue when I was 11 back in the day. Mom was giving me dirty looks and comments about talking to random Americans online lol.
But that’s how I learned the language on the long run. I encourage you to do the same.

Thats why you need to form an English speaking group, join a clan, a good way would be forcing yourself to talk with ppl you know.

Eh maybe i will do it at some point.
First i would have to ask my mom about it.
She definitely wouldn’t be happy if im just talkin with random people…
Tell her it’s for your own good.
Ask her “mom, do you NOT want me to learn?!”

You play with them so you might as well join them, as long as you can trust them

Ehhh… not sure if learn is the right word here but…
idk.
I also gotta do a small edit.
I usually don’t speak on voice either, unless absolutely necessary. When it happens, people tend to understand things like “reaper behind” regardless of my accent.
As for your parents… with all due respect, it’s not their business who are you talking to in-game.

It is, though.
You can simply appeal to your mother’s pride by telling this to her. Sure, it’s a bit manipulative, but in a positive way.
