After several years I have returned to Overwatch 2. And what I immediately see - Sombra got completely reworked. Again. And several times, it seems.
Like WTF, Sombra never had a good winrate. Current one seems literally almost the worst. Why can’t they let Sombra mains have something?
Whether Sombra is fun to play/strong or not isn’t really the point, its that most people find her particularly unfun to play against.
People hate to play against her when she’s good, and when she is bad they still hate to play against her, just slightly less. There’s actually a few heroes like that.
She was unfun to play against on last rework.
That’s the excuse people always used before. On EVERY Sombra version. EVERY hero in OW is unfun to play against for someone. Should we just leave only Soldier 76 so people don’t need to learn working against different characters?
What can you say, invisible enemies are never fun to play against in any game.
Sombra is a character that is conceptually wrong. Her entire kit is built around mechanics that are unfun to play against.
When Sombra is balanced (winrate wise), she’s incredibly unfun to play against.
When Sombra is weak, she’s a throw pick (unfun to have as a teammate) and still unfun to play against.
When she’s working as intended she makes the quality of matches dramatically worse by merely existing.
Thus she is in this eternal cycle of being reworked, then patched, then reworked again, then pathed again, etc.
As long as Bilzz doesn’t realize this and rework her idea as a character, this will go on forever.

Honestly as a Doomfist main I never really hated playing against her
I hated playing with her.
Permanent stealth is a horrible thing to balance around.
It too easily encouraged a play style where players would sit invisible 99% of the time just waiting for some big opportunity that would maybe never come because the rest the rest of their team is busy playing a 5v6 while sombra is off doing who knows what.
Now yes obviously this wasn’t the way good sombras played her - but it was still too common of a play style. You’d get players who would swap to her going “I’m totes going counter this enemy hero!” And then accomplish nothing all match.
Absolutely loathed playing with sombra most of the time.
Not that i enjoyed playing against her - but if she was in invis “waiting” to hack me on doom, I could deal with that and it meant she want harassing my team. Ya know. Being a tank.
Toss a coin. Heads we rework sombra. Tails we rework Symmetra
I actually hate him because the sound of his gun is so freaking loud…I really wish there was a way to turn down the volume of it.

Hey guys we found a whiner, crack out the emergency pacifiers. What more than she is an annoying character to play against do you want to hear. Oh no, you cant stay invisible while you turn off the opponents abilities or teleport away out of the fight and turn invisible again, boo hoo.

Sorry man you will receive zero sympathy from the forum the forum would rather be made good at the game than become good at the game through effort. They’re all victims who have been attacked by sombra. They don’t care about your feelings but also demand you respect their frustrations.
Honestly yeah. When sombra got nuked again, the forums were in their own idiotic little celebrations. It was pathetic to watch. They needed to be shoved into lockers more often in high school. I have zero respect for those creatures.
It’s just a crazy double standard the forum has. You can be reported for being mean towards all other mains. Sombra mains are allowed to be insulted, made fun of, and there is zero repercussions for it. Forumers I guess are entitled to hating sombra.
Well, it might be indicative that something is wrong with the hero on a conceptual level when other hated heroes have not received (nearly as many) reworks
It will never be about winrate. It will never be about how good she is.
It will always be about sombra having a purely anti-fun kit. The PROBLEM is they keep trying to preserve hero identity so every single rework is fail, sombra KEEPS being anti-fun and she keeps having her balance / strength forced down because blizzard knows… no one wants to play against her.
Until they stop trying to preserve that identity, the hero will keep going through this cycle. And the hero will always suck, because she HAS to suck.
