I can handle a game or two but having more than 5 games and they are only in my team is NOT OKAY.
Since some of you can’t understand: It’s not the fault if new players, it is the matchmaker. It puts all the new players in one team instead of balancing the two sides.
For new players: If you want to learn the game while having fun try Deathmatch, Arcade games and some Workshop games, they are fun. Here is a website that has a lot of codes for modes that can help you learn whatever hero you want workshop.codes

You should become better than the average new player then.

But dont you like that the Overwatch community is growing?

Play comp? Then they had to have played a bunch of qp games at least

What’s your endorsement level? There’s a theory that new players are constantly being grouped with people who have a level 5.
I guess they think low toxicity will help them feel welcome in the game.

The community for the first time in a long time is growing. That’s great. We all gotta start somewhere. We were all green at some point. Set the example and have fun with it. I’m sure people complained about you being new at some point as well.

That’s… actually not a bad theory, makes sense they’d put new players with people less likely to cuss them out.

They should do something similar to what they do in WoW, where they nominate players who have zero toxicity and have a clean record etc to help new players settle into the game-can’t remember off the top of my head what they call those players. Think it would be pretty useful imo with more players joining.

Yes, they wrote about it on Reddit and being a level 5 myself I also noticed lots of new players in my groups. I’m happy there are new players, absolutely, but qp has become extremely casual, time to play more ranked I guess.
I especially noticed A LOT of Mercy players just standing still with a random beam and called some out “Hey Mercy, are you ok???”, then later I started noticing they were new players and felt bad, I should have been the guy who says “Hey, welcome to the game!”…

i still wonder how anyone can be “new” to overwatch since this game has been out for almost 10 years
returning players yea but not totally brand new ones?
edit:
well nvm… league of legends has been out for longer? and i never played that game at all… i think 1 map one time for lulz and just immediately quit or i downloaded it and tried the training grounds but was like nah

I’ve seen quite a few videos on YouTube and TikTok of Marvel Rivals players trying OW for the first time. I think ironically Marvel Rivals could have brought some thousands players in.

I could go for something like that. I never understood this mentality of hating on new people. It just seems really dumb considering we were all there once.
that is funny that a competitor has brought brand new players to overwatch. maybe people trying the “hero shooter genre” out and wanted to try a different hero shooter
edit:
hopefully they try paladins out as well. bring that game back to life
Yeah it’s really dumb. They do a similar thing in Final Fantasy online as well, where there’s players who help out other players. I’m not sure how it work in a game like this, but if it could be done it would be really beneficial-would be a hard job though

Definitely funny, it’s the golden age of OW because of Marvel Rivals.
Netease (or Disney, or both) are doing a lot of advertisement (I get their ads everywhere on a daily basis), Blizzard isn’t. People who don’t know OW download Marvel Rivals because they can play their favorite Marvel hero, probably they never played a hero shooter before. They think the game is cool, they start watching YouTube videos and constantly see OW mentioned or played by the same people who play Rivals. Maybe they even see a recommendation on Steam because OW is a similar game. Free marketing for Blizzard. At the same time OW has improved thanks to the competition. We can just hope Marvel Rivals stays alive for a long time.

That would explain everything if true. I also feel like the game often gives me dead weight, and I would not be surprised if they were actually new players. I see lots of low levels
I guess it’s a nice idea, but it would be better if they made it an opt-in thing for the level 5s instead of forcing all of them into it and driving some of us insane trying to figure out why we have to be the “designated carry” so often. I’ve had enough. I don’t want this, but I can’t help being level 5 for some reason

I’ve been level 5 ever since they revamped the system and now that you mention it, I’ve noticed this too… I’ll have to keep a closer eye on it.
Of course, the downside is, you also get grouped with/against high ranked people who just made a new account.
Honestly this explains a lot as far as the odd matches I’ve been experiencing lately. In another post recently I was talking about how something felt off but I couldn’t put my finger on what.

Nice to know other people have suspected this too. I’m endorsement 5 and I’ve been thinking this is what’s happening as well, hence why I always get so many new or returning players I feel I have to “carry” and have a bad time playing.
I check profiles after EVERY match because I avoid people every match, yes even in QP. And in all that profile checking, I’ve realised very often my team will be full of endorsement 1-2 players and me on endorsement 5 and sometimes maybe another endorsement 5 with me, while the enemy team will usually be full of people sat usually around endorsement 3-4, no 1’s but no 5’s either.
Of course this isn’t every game but it is common enough that I’ve taken notice. And I too started to think it’s actually a hidden system to match new or returning players with people the devs expect to be “less toxic”.
The sad thing is, for me anyway, it kinda works because it is true no matter how bad they are, I will not say anything mean to them, unless they come for me first then I’ll defend myself.

Its okay to have new players. I calmed down after a few lose streaks and start to think its a good thing. But I do think they should keep the range smaller.

I mean, kids are growing up all the time, then get gaming PCs or consoles. Just think of each new generation like Gen Z, Gen Alpha, etc.
And of course the cross-over of MR players to OW2.
