I'm new to Overwatch. Tips for starters?

I’m extremely new to the game, level five.
Any tips for someone just starting out the PvP modes? I’m awfully garbage, almost to the point of laughter from some friends.

Try out the heroes in practice mode to find the one you enjoy the most. Look up some videos on them that show their potential and good ways yo play them. Learn the numbers and how the other heroes work so you know what you’re dealing with.

Try to have a handfull of characters that you’re good at or wanna be good at so you can switch around depending on the situation

And most importantly have fun

Play mystery heroes! It will get you playing heroes you wouldn’t otherwise play. Deathmatch is also a good mode to practice new heroes in since you don’t have teammates to get upset if you aren’t doing well. You want to have a few different heroes you are able to play well in case you need to swap or fill a role.

Play with friends. Your experience will be better for it

quickplay is mostly for fun. most people dont take it too seriously. its a good place to learn the basics. try out as many characters as possible. even if you dont want to play them much, it will help you understand how to counter them. be nice, have fun, and welcome to overwatch

If you’re not good with aiming, try playing Moira or Winston, but make sure to try every hero in-game to see which one you’re most comfortable with.

Good luck!

CRY
CRY SOME MORE
AND EAT FRUIT
THEN YOU SHALL GIT GUD
and keep playing/practicing everyone is basically a pro now

I’d say that would be a completely fair option…

Don’t main Hanzo or Torbjorn.

So many teammates will hate you and report you out of spite to the point where your account gets silenced, suspended, then banned.

Try to have fun. That is all that matters. It’s not important how good or bad you are! You will improve over time, believe me!
To be honest, I would do a lot to have the same experience as you - everything is new and exciting
I still remember how amazed I was by Hanzo’s ult! There’s a dragon and some guy shouting japanese!! Soooo cool!
Lol, good times

And my last advice: don’t visit the forums too often. Too much negativity :sleepy:

Do not go into comp exactly at lvl 25. Wait at least until level 80 or so.

Why? Both, you and your team will have a better time this way. Because your understanding of the game and (hopefuly) a couple of heroes will be more polished.

EDIT: AND! you will be likely ranked higher than at lvl 25

Play Mystery Heroes to get a little bit of time with a variety of characters. Once you find some you like then try them out in QP and just have fun.

Honestly, I take the game to seriously sometimes which sucks because I suck at the game but it should be a fun experience so just stay positive and have a good time

I have noticed some of my favorite streamers discussing things like that. Perhaps I’ll keep that in mind.

Eek. I really must disagree. Spend too much time in Quick Play and you will develop a ton of bad habits! Like I did!!!

Icy Veins and Furious Paul have excellent in-depth hero guides. I’m sorry I DON’T know if they are current so doublecheck that before using them.

Take advantage of everything really. feeding is a consistent issue in this game, but I honestly feel like more people are too scared rather than too aggressive.

ranking up is about making big plays. so make some big plays.

and also, less of a tip and more of a request: Welcome to the overwatch community, please be sure to report toxic players, its doing us all a favor

I’ll make sure to do so. I came from CS:GO so I understand the amount of toxicity a game can contain within its player base.

Sure but that depends on how much mind you put into it.
I played alot of QP before starting comp (as there was no comp at that time :D) and it helped.

But maybe that switched the moment QP became a sh*tshow. So yeah i can see why someone disagrees with this statement. But if you watch streams too i do think it works out better.

Play with friends and don’t read the forums, if you stop having fun switch game types or take a break.
