I really like to play tank, specifically Mauga, but my aim is absolutely horrible, to a point where I’m better off not playing him. When I play someone like Roadhog, Junker Queen or Zarya, my aim is pretty good and I tend to hit a lot of shots, but the moment I pick Mauga, I genuinely cannot hit a thing. At close range I can hit something due to firing both miniguns, but at range? Nothing.
I’m honestly not sure what to do. Aim Training isn’t helping me either, am I just supposed to brute force my aim until I get better?
You need tracking skills to play Mauga. Aim trainers should help with that, but if they don’t then I don’t know what to tell you.
Practice makes perfect. You will naturally aim better if you become more experienced with Mauga. I actually have the opposite problem, I struggle up close. Especially on heroes such as Ana or Kiriko. I would rather ignite them cross map because that’s where I am more comfortable. I do not believe you need particularly good aim to be a decent Mauga, so I would just try your best until it becomes natural.
I try to use the ignition minigun from afar, but it still feels difficult for me to hit anything. Which is really weird, considering I don’t have this issue with Zarya. Then again, her beam might be bigger than Mauga’s bullets
At range are you holding firing both guns together? If so, that might be the start of the issue
I would definitely sit in an aim trainer with him for a bit, get used to tracking moving targets.
Mauga is not exactly a aim intensive tank, his spread is too large it makes him a range based spam tank, you are not hitting shots cause you are not in range.
They ruined the aim aspect after they buffed him and increased spread.
You are better of using zarya Orissa to improve tracking aim
Or jq for tap shots.

I’m not firing both guns at range, I’m stupid but not THAT stupid. As I said before, I have tried those aim trainers, they did not help me out.
Haha just thought I’d check, keep playing against Maugas that just hold them both down and wonder why nothing dies.
They will over time, but it takes a fair amount of time to get that wedged into muscle memory.
Could also be worth trying different mice, setting and so on.
100% this.
I track with Mauga waaaaay better if I play a few games on soldier first.
Slow down your aim, no silly flicks or twitches and focus on your movement being fluid. The more you jump around and A-D-A-D the more you are going to mess up your own aim.
Go into custom games and search for a game called “aim trainer”, look for the version that is on Lijiang Tower. It has a bunch of enemy heroes being launched up into the air at odd angles.
I did that with Mauga the other day and it helped a lot. Also, aim trainers. OW is very tracking heavy, so any training variants that focus on honing your tracking will help.
EDIT: Also, if you haven’t already understood this, just accept that you’re human and your performance will vary from day to day due to a large number of factors. So don’t be too hard on yourself if you have a day or two of off aim.
EDIT 2: Practice aim trainer custom games with your cross hairs turned off. I started doing that last week and when you turn your cross hairs back on after ten minutes, you feel like you’re using an aimbot
Go into the range, put your reticle on those robots and literally just track them with your thumbs if you use a controller or use your arms if you play on pc. The rest is just playing the game and eventually your aim improves. Hitscans are among the easiest heroes to play in this game, if you learn to track, you learn to hitscan.
Post a replay.
Also how big is your desk and mousepad? How is your chair? Is it stationary? Or will it move around.
How high is your desk? Do you “float” when you play the game where your feet arent parallel to the floor?
How do you hold your mouse?

Like other’s have said, aim trainers will work, but that’s not an overnight thing. It takes weeks to months using a trainer to see any ROI in your aim.
