⭐ Im ashamed of the forums

EDIT- for the second topic Ive made in a row, some of you have flagged it and caused it to get hidden, and for the second time I got a message saying “a moderator reviewed your post and has restored it” Stop false flagging things you disagree with.

Not every one, but a lot of you, and especially some of my fellow support mains. I feel embarrassed right now.

I feel disheartened that devs, and especially Jeff (who just last week started posting and talking to us) might come on here, expecting to interact with us about the new hero they just made for us, only to see all this vitriol and hatred and malice towards them.

Echo was most likely in heavy development from early 2019 last year, right after we got Baptiste (a support). Then they gave us a new main shield tank (sigma). It makes complete sense to have started development on a new DPS at that time. (EDIT- I now know Echo existed, at least as a concept art, ever since Project TITAN)

They’re going one by one and making a new hero in each category, in order. This is how it’s been since launch (with a few outlier exceptions) but it is the most fair system they can possibly follow

The game did not launch with 1/3 dps, 1/3 tank, and 1/3 support. It was created with more DPS than other roles. This is standard practice for games like this. Support are almost always the smallest category.

Look at Paladins, the same pattern follows. Look at Battleborn, support is smallest category, then tank, then dps. I’m sure if you look to other games or even MMOs you’ll find the same thing. It’s just how things are

We have been in such a long content drought with no new permanent things added to the game, basically for 7 or 8 months now. They didn’t have to give us Echo. They could’ve saved her for Blizzcon or the fall.

We are going through a global emergency crisis with the Corona virus right now. Blizzard employees are working from home. When they should be focusing on their families, instead they are making things for us and giving us a new hero to tide us over until OW2.

Echo is beautiful and amazing looking and I am extremely happy to get a new projectile dps for once. Her voicework blew me away and her design might be my favorite robot in all of gaming.

Some of you really need to meditate on the phrase “beggars can’t be choosers”. Some of you really need to stop and appreciate what you have. Most of us bought the game years ago, and are getting free events, free to earn skins and cosmetics, and free new heroes year after year.

Ive put 2000 hours into this game, I’ve gotten my money’s worth tenfold over, and I want to say thank you devs from bottom of my heart for what you’ve made and continue to make.

Overwatch has changed my life in a real way. It inspired me to go into 3D character design. I now have my Bachelor’s in exactly that and I’m working on an indie hero shooter in the works doing what I love

I guess all I’m trying to say is chill out and be thankful for free content, and don’t attack devs or DPS players because "Echo isn’t exactly how I wanted her to be! :japanese_goblin: "

I mean I’ve been ashamed of the forums for like 2 years now…people always wonder why devs don’t bother posting on here anymore…there’s a reason for that…not exactly a well of objectivity

News flash, we had too many DPS 6-8 months ago too.

This isn’t even a support or tank-exclusive issue: plenty of DPS-only players are already quitting because of the abysmal queue experience. Echo, as cool as she is in concept, really makes things worse for everyone being released right now.

Well Im pretty sure they can’t just stop making DPS for the next 9 years in order to keep the DPS queue time in stasis, until all roles are perfectly number balanced

They either cancel role queue or slowly keep making DPS just like other roles, or cease all DPS creation forever so it doesn’t increase. I think option 2 is the best

No, but they could slow down the rate of DPS releases so that it’s not actually higher than the tank release rate.

Then they should probably stop wasting time, pause the development of all the DPS heroes we don’t need and finally start to work towards equalizing the roster numbers.

Since release we got 4 new DPS + 1 stolen from the Support category, 4 new Supports and 3 new Tanks.

They KNOW that there is a problem and they keep making it worse and you are disappointed in the players for being upset about it? :joy:

I don’t know why so many people are disappointed about Echo being a dps. they NEVER said she would be a support, i don’t know why people immidietly that she would be a healer. chill out y’all…

Well you’ll be happy to know Echo is the last hero before Overwatch 2, and a few days ago Jeff said in interview that “a lot of support and tanks are being made for OW2” so they’re doing exactly this

Most of the hatred has been (incorrectly) pointed towards Damage-Mains, but any frustration towards the devs, I’m sorry to say, is sort of warranted.

  • The Tank & Support population is dwindling each day that passes.
  • Damage queue times are rising to alarmingly high rates and NEED to go down.
  • A good chunk of the hero roster is either struggling to remain relevant or they’re unviable.
  • The majority of the playerbase expects Echo to be a Support hero.

…and then Blizzard decides to release her as a Damage hero.

Literally NOBODY won here.

All this has done is exacerbate a lot of the community’s frustrations with the dev team and potentially has given people even more reason to uninstall and leave the game.

Echo was actually told to be a new hero back during Ashe’s release, so that would mean she was in development since late 2018.

I’m sorry, but if she’s been in development for 1.5 years and all you can get from that is “She should be a Damage hero”…maybe you should have delayed her release.

It’s not just the forums and it isn’t just support players. If you look at other sites there are a lot of people who are salty in their comment sections as well. I honestly don’t know what kind of reception they expected when people have been complaining about the size of the support and tank rosters as well as the lengthy DPS queue times for a while now. Echo does nothing to help either of these isues.

Also, constructive criticism is healthy, players should be able to express how they feel. Some people are definitely taking it to far because “LOL THE DEVS ARE TRASH I’M GONNA UNINSTALL AND ALL DPS MAINS ARE BABIES WHO GET CATERED TO” helps no one…but I have also so seen a lot of good discussion around this as well.

IDK why you would bring COVID-19 into this, especially since you stated previously that Echo was probably in development since 2019 and the pandemic started about a month or so ago. With quarantines being implemented with the last two weeks.

Blizzard employees are likely not working on anything RN, or at least not anything major involving Echo that wasn’t an automated or planned action.

Anyway, even in 2019 before the Echo development, many of the issues that players are mentioning were still active.

Some people are raging, but many are voicing their concerns respectfully, albeit frustrated so this post seems a bit melodramatic imo.

If you don’t voice your concerns and hold devs somewhat accountable to issues that have been frequently mentioned in the past, then nothing gets changed.

This is something they always do with new heroes. Sometimes in the forums and sometimes on Reddit.

They could skip it this time.

I disagree.

You may not like it, but it is still player feedback.

Players want a support or tank hero, and not a DPS’er. They have the right to voice that opinion.

That depends.
I for one find similar sized classes fair.

With the current system will we never get that.

No, I am not happy.
It will be most likely more than a year until OW2 release and they are actively holding back Support and Tank heroes for it.

Maybe. But, in most other service jobs you can’t hide in the back when customers are upset. These forums are not anymore toxic than other games forums where devs have back bones and reply to toxic posts and good posts.

Yeah, I quit playing support for the most part almost a year ago because healing just got boring. I was good at it but there were so many barriers in the game that playing Ana was a frustration more often than not, and Moira just feels… Too easy? Cheap? Mercy is an absolute snoozefest compared to what she used to be able to do, so I never play her, and she’s trash to boot kit wise - Brig is too weak to even be considered and Bap is just… Weird? Don’t like his kit.

So I started playing all the DPS and a few tanks, and now it takes so long to GET a game that when I do finally get a game and it goes horribly, as it will inevitably do with so many smurfs and throwers and jerks in the game now that just enjoy ruining their team’s experience, that it makes me that much more frustrated. I feel stupid for waiting literally 10 minutes for a game just to have our Mei wall us off or our Rein to spam emotes in spawn and never leave. This stuff happens so regularly for me that I’ve started playing Don’t Starve instead of OW whenever I want to play a game, because at least that game doesn’t make me want to flip a table over for how unfair it feels. And that’s a horror survival game where monsters are constantly trying to eat your face off!

Can you make the same post when DPS mains cry about supports not being free kills?

What about when Genji mains make the 10,000th thread trying to gut Moira?

Oh what about the times when DPS mains get upset with Baptiste for using IF around a corner or out dueling a DPS?

What about when DPS/Tracer mains harassed Brig’s Voice actor?

It’s be great if yall showed some consistency and didn’t just try to lecture one of the few times support mains got out of hand.

Listen you being star dazzled by Jeff means very little to my enjoyment of the game. I am sorry that I cannot consider how you feel about how jeff feels about how I feel when I post here

What? Don’t you know? He is THE “not like the other support mains” support main. Jeff replied to him after years of posting on the forum so now we all need to walk on eggshells to make sure that he is proud of us. Have you been living under a rock?
