Sigma is not confirmed to be autistic as far as I’m aware and we already literally have Symmetra, who is.

Mercy? Seems to be a bit of a random hero to pull, but Symmetra was confirmed to be on the spectrum so.
In her comic she mentions being on the spectrum and many times later it has been stated by devs that she is autistic. I genuinely thought this was common knowledge by now.
Hearing things does not mean being autistic? What are you getting at lol
Also what role the hero is in doesn’t really matter for knowing about their lore. Just saying.
In her comic she is referenced as having been chosen to be a Vishkar architect because she was “on the spectrum” and later in a letter to a fan from Jeff he confirms that Sym is autistic.
Sigma is just based on an old stereotype of an asylum patient and it’d be pretty inconsiderate to highlight him as an autistic representative.
What does Sigmas hallucinations have anything to do with autism? And calling it a severe mental illness is a huge insult to these people that have this disorder.
I don’t think OP had any genuinely malicious intent with this post, to be fair autism does have a large and varying amount of symptoms and severities and due to that is largely misunderstood.
Just a note for the future though, do some research next time please.
Signed, someone with autism themselves.
They’re not going to use Sigma because his mental problems are the result of his mind literally being traumatized by whatever space nonsense he went through. Not traumatized as in emotional damage, but in the sense of his brain actually getting beaten and battered by an experiment gone wrong.
For that reason, it’d be wrong to use him as a way to raise awareness for a mental disorder like autism. He’d better represent people who are disabled due to a workplace accident.

Why the actual hell are you addressing a complex neurological disorder like a predefined stat modifier from a video game?
Autism is a condition that affects many people like myself/others and manifests to various degrees in a slew of different ways.
People with autism aren’t just automatically “smart” (EDIT: we’re not automatically anything BESIDES autistic), it’s not a buff/debuff/or “boost” as you seem to have taken to calling it.
You’re literally talking about it in one of the ways that it has been egregiously misrepresented in various forms of media for years now and it’s gross.
there’s 2 differences between sym and sigma
one isn’t confirmed to be autistic, and also doesn’t have any mental disorders besides having physical trauma/brain damage and was labeled insane and taken into a mental asylum
the other one in the comic stated that she was accepted as a viskar architect because she is on the spectrum, and was literally confirmed by the maker of Overwatch to be autistic.
Wait, she was a diversity hire, or what? Am I misreading her being “accepting because she’s on the spectrum” as something else?
from what i’ve read here
i would believe she was so
i think its more that she thinks differently than most other people, which…for engineering could be a benefit.
my understanding was that her dedication to order and her attention to detail made her work stand out to vishkar.
citation definitely needed.
then again jeff did confirm she was autistic, though i’m pretty sure no one knows what kind of disorder she has
so yeah could be it
well thats the thing
she is on the spectrum, that is her disorder
it isn’t ruining her and she can function rather fine, she just has social issues, as we can see. Symmetra isnt the character to walk to a microphone and be charismatic, she would be sitting in the back, maybe with a friend or two, quietly talking amongst themselves
Sigma bawls
Am I right ?

“ Each child with autism spectrum disorder is likely to have a unique pattern of behavior and level of severity — from low functioning to high functioning.”
High functioning children tend to have above average intelligence.
