It’s really funny that this is a headline but it’s not wrong
https://www.ign.com/articles/after-years-of-struggle-blizzard-has-found-itself-in-uncharted-territory-overwatch-players-are-having-fun-again
Hehe.
I used to read IGN all the time back in the day. Are they having a revival too?!
I will admit, Overwatch is in a much better state than it was 6 months ago, but it still has a very long way to go
I mean last year the game was building momentum but still slow at times
The year before that was the clownshow pve launch
the year before that was the clownshow “overwatch 2” launch
the year before that the game was on life support
the year before that the game got echo then went into life support
the year before that the game began to noticeably slow down and have some questionable additions
So yeah maybe it’s not the glory days again, but it’s the beast we had in quite some time
I guess Blizzards check finally cleared?
IGN should do a 2025 re-review it really deserves more than 8/10!
Especially for hero bans right?!
Leave a positive review on Steam and Metacritic if you want to support the game!
Tell your friends they need to check it out again!
Let’s all do our bit and get Overwatch back where it belongs!
The hero shooter Queen we deserve!
It’s funny to see the article quoting Samito and Flats, seeing how engagement-farming CCs like them have been one of the biggest sources of negativity surrounding this game over the past few years.
At this point, it really seems like the Overwatch ship sailed into the windless doldrums back in 2019-2020. There were no substantial content updates, and practically radio silence from the developers. Meanwhile behind the scenes they were going in circles because of poor leadership. Kotick was a big part of it, but Kaplan had his part to play too. I like the guy, I hope he’s doing well wherever he is, but he just wasn’t the captain the ship needed.
Pressure from OWL teams and owners forced their hand into releasing an “early access” Overwatch 2 without the promised PvE content, and was basically a downgrade in every way. The three missions that eventually did release were the content dump of what little they had, so they could at least show SOMETHING for their work.
Then they started working on righting the ship, concentrating more on new PvP projects they had going on, like Stadium. Finally we started seeing things happen, the Classic modes, the 6v6 tests, Junkenstein’s Lab, and more transparency in general with blog posts. And they were cooking.
And now, to finish with the nautical metaphors, it seems like the game is finally sailing out of the doldrums and getting back on track to newer horizons. They’ve gotta be careful, it’s very easy to lose momentum. But to add a clumsy kitchen metaphor, if they keep cooking like they have been this could actually be a new golden age for the game.
But there are a million ways to screw this up, and only a few ways to get it right.
I agree with this. I hadn’t played OW in years and saw the announcements for S16 on youtube and thought it looked like the game is changing. Then I started watching some of the CCs and some of their recent, and not so recent, videos.
Flats and Samito, especially Samito, have been very negative about the game. Almost persuaded me not to come back and try it after watching some of their content. I also watched Emongg who wasn’t nearly as negative, Super who was a bit up and down but still seemed to be enjoying it (or the attention at least) when he wasn’t playing rivals, and a few others. Omnic Post seems hopeful no matter what so he’s ok to watch.
Most of these people are not good ambassadors for the game.
I don’t like toxic positivity it ruined some of my favorite games, stadium could be good but they need to work right now
Who are these people? Lmao
Is this one of those things where zoomers watch people play video games instead of playing it themselves?
It was in a better state during “ow1”, pathetic they called this “ow2”
Aren’t they the same company that gave 7/10 to Concord?
No, lol… No they are not. IGN is long since garbage. There’s no redeeming that trash pile.
Usually… I’d also be one of those zoomers
But when it’s a free to play game… j-just play the game
(Like it makes sense wanting to see what a game is like before putting money into it, but if it’s free… all you’re spending is time)
That’s strange.
I thought the game made what is the second worst decision since it’s release?
Perks & Stadium made the game fun for me atleast. Now give us animation series and expand Overwatch to different genres.
I would love see -
- Real-time Strategy.
- Xcom-like game.
- A civ type game.
- A side-scrolling.
- A isometric RPG.
- PvE game from Saber, Arrowhead or Fatshark.
- A vampire survivor like game.
- A fighting game.
No, they aren’t. In fact, a lot of their staff were laid off, and much of their content now is AI generated or pushing product links where they earn a sales commission.
