If you're not going to keep PvE, at least tell us why

Hi!

There are already a lot of topics about how awesome it would be if Blizzard actually included the last PvE events as a permanent game mode, minus the esclusive cosmetics to keep them a special value. But the fact that Blizzard never agreed to do it, or even gave a straight answer to this demand, is unfortunately a bad sign.

As it has been exposed many times, there would be absolutely no negative consequences if PvE events were permanently added. If Blizzard is going, once again, to take months of work on beautiful maps and potential dozens of hours of fun away from us, I think at least we deserve to know why.

So, Blizzard, will you finally hear the thousands of players asking for this little thing that wouldnt cost you anything and would give justice to your efforts, or remain in your current course? And if so, just: why?

(I mean, there’s actually no good reason to lock PvE behind a time barrier, it’s like a restaurant offering its best meals only 3 weeks a year!)

This, this and this. Why not blizz?

Some will whine about “specialness”, but that’s just ridiculous. If you keep them in Custom Games at the very least, players have a choice of waiting for it to be “special”, or just enjoying them whenever.

A potential compromise on the “specialness” argument would be for Gizzard to make a generic hoard mode that isn’t connected to any event or lore (like how every other normal mode is generic). Then we could scratch the PvE itch all year round while still letting Blizz keep Junkenstein and Archive events “special.”

They talked about this in a interview:

Overwatch PvE Modes

turikk: Every year, we get questions about a PvE mode from a bunch of people. Do you guys have any updates on a permanent PvE mode outside of events?

Jeff: It’s something we’re super interested in. If you look at our team makeup; Scott Mercer, Geoff Goodman, they were two leading designers on WoW who did loads of awesome boss fights. Then we’ve got Mike Heiberg who did loads of StarCraft campaign missions. There’s a huge PvE pedigree on the team and we’re super interested in it, but the thing people sometimes overlook is that our engine is built from the ground up - and it’s brand new. There are a lot of different ‘moving parts’. Even getting the smallest AI to path and move across the map is a big deal for us. We know people want a PvE mode, but when people ask us to make our current modes permanent, we don’t feel they’d be replayable enough. To get to the point where PvE is its own thing, in that regard, is almost like talking about a new game. We’re going to continue doing cool stuff like Junkenstein; but at its core, Overwatch, the game everyone’s playing, is a 6 player action shooter.

This is interesting, but IMO, Jeff’s argument doesnt stand. Why not let the players decide if they think the mode is too repetitive or not? If they dont like it, they just have to go back to “the 6 player action shooter” mode and that’s it! Having a mode that is not “fun but not replayable enough” is far better than no mode at all!

That is a BS response by Jeff. The playerbase should decide if it’s not “replayable” enough. Hell, most of the modes get boring after you play them enough anyway.

Wow. This is a big load of bull. “We feel like these modes aren’t replayable enough so we’re not going to give it to those who want to replay it?”

I can understand not adding Junkenstein’s Revenge since they want there to be something special when an event comes, but they can add Archives since there will be a new mode each year (which is what people are definitely going to expect and will be disappointed if it doesn’t happen).

This is a really bad “argument” to make. I think it’s up to players to decide if it’s replayable or not. The amount of times my friends and I have commented that we’d like to play Junkenstein is quite a lot. I mean, why not put it up and try it out for more than an event, and see how many players ACTUALLY play it?

Because it detracts from what OW is. At the end of the day its that 6v6 shooter. Adding PvE that is repeatable eventually gets old since it’s not very re playable. The story never changes.

We don’t get Christmas all year round because if you did it would ruin the uniqueness of it.

For how long until you got bored? It won’t last forever.

There’s no discussion needed at this point.

They took CTF out of Year of the Dog, and told us that in future Year of the ___ events, the “draw” will be ranked mode and competitive points.

Well, then take PvE out of Uprising/Retribution, and let future events’ draws be ranked mode.

Then take out FFA DM and Team DM. Disallow those from year-round play.

If not, it’s hypocritical.

If the game is terrible why are you still on it’s forums? And I’m sure eventually that would also bore you.

Do you represent all of the playerbase? No, you don’t. You have no authority to think that all of the players shouuld think like you. Let the players decide if it gets “repetitive” or not

Come on, Blizzard. We are barely going to get to play the mode before you put it off until next year.

Those are repeatable and the main point is versus enemy players. Story missions like these follow the same linear path every time.

They’ll change their tune once they realize the goodwill that is lost with continuing to gate content behind events.

So you just moved your goalpost.

First it was 6v6 pvp. Now it’s pvp in general.

Stop.

With how absolutely imbalanced and repetitive DM is these days, you don’t have an argument.

The April events should never be removed, they’re literally the only actual bits of story we get in the game.
