If you think people should 'git gud,' just remove enemy health bars

let’s say the game took away enemy health bars when you hit them, and only showed how damaged they were by bumps and bruises and maybe a staggered limp once they got down to 25 hp or something.

and then someone asked, can you please bring back enemy health bars, and someone responded to that person, “you just need better game sense to see how damaged enemy players are.”

I can understand this argument, but disagree with it. Same for a mini map for allies and the ability to see health pack locations through walls.

yes, remembering where health packs are has a positive effect on your SR, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

if you don’t want people to see health pack locations through the wall, then you don’t want them to see enemy health bars either.

if you don’t feel this way, you’re just picking and choosing with no guiding light

You’re creating fallacies here. You can improve your game play regardless of how good you are. Removing information that helps you improve your game play isn’t logically sound to say it’s a solid comparison between the two.

Do better, get better results. Do worse, get worse results. Obviously, your point is that there are other factors preventing you from doing just that. The real problem is, your skill set isn’t good enough to over come that and have hit your plateau.

Everyone faces that at all ranks.

if you think enemy health bars are a good idea, but don’t think it would be a good idea to see health pack locations through walls, I would say these are conflicting.

Either you want the UI help you cheat (enemy health bars) or don’t want the UI help you cheat (don’t show enemy health packs through walls)

I honestly have no idea what you’re even talking about now. Your hidden agenda is confusing.

Do you think they should remove enemy health bars?

Do you think they should show health pack locations through walls?

No.

Unless hacked by the Sombra on your team, no.

No to both. Health packs are a part of map knowledge. Health bars is a part of being tactical. Your health changes every second when in a fight. Health packs don’t randomly change positions. If they are hacked, you can see them anyways.

your view points are not consistent

here, you are in favor of the UI letting you cheat

here, you are not in favor of the UI letting you cheat

you should be able to count the bullets and tell how much damage an enemy has taken.

Showing enemy health bars is the way the devs designed the game to work. Where the heck are you getting the idea that it’s cheating from?

Go play some hardcore CoD if that’s what you’re looking for.

just because it’s legal, doesn’t mean it’s moral

the topic of this post is hypocrisy, not my gameplay experience on OW

Okay…could you explain to me why you think it’s “immoral” though? And why you think it’s cheating? I’m genuinely confused.

I’m in full agreement with this guy. ^ It’s a good explanation.

either you want the UI to give you information you couldn’t otherwise gain, or you don’t want the UI to give you information you couldn’t otherwise gain

you shouldn’t really get to pick and choose

I don’t see the hypocrisy that you are trying to prove. I see “git gud” followed by “no health bars” followed by “see health packs”. It’s not making any sense to me which is why I asked about your hidden agenda.

if you play in a six stack, you can tell all your team anytime you get low on health, hit the “i need healing” button, but you can’t make 5 random people do this.

so in solo queue there should be an option to make your 5 teammates hit the “i need healing” button once they get low on health. ( so you could see who’s low on health when they are behind you)

any advantage that you can get with 6 people playing over and over, the UI should afford you that luxury when solo queueing.

As far as the health packs, the hypocrisy is that you are determining where to draw the line on UI assisted information, which is arbitrary. Some may say seeing enemy health bars is too much cheating for a true competitive game.

Except the health packs have NEVER moved and are in the same, exact spots every time whereas enemy life bars are constantly changing. Seriously, with the amount of times you’ve brought up this health pack argument and typed it you could have explored every map to find them.

the year is 2049, Overwatch now has 122 maps and 72 heroes. Now would you agree that showing health pack locations through walls is a good idea?

If it has THAT many maps and lasts that long it’d be another case. Has any game? No, so you’re arguing basically ab adsurdam hypotheticals and strawmanning if you think anyone has suggested that.

just glad you’re finally seeing things my way

Yeah it’s a design choice. There’s no hypocrisy in deciding a level of intel to give your players.

Arguing that you shouldn’t be able to see unhacked health packs (which would actually be useless clutter for any experienced player) does not mean you don’t want health bars visible. If you think the spawn doors having a visible + to indicate where the healing effect begins is fine it doesn’t necessarily imply you want to be able to see the enemy team with wall hacks the entire game. But you’re equating any desire for “UI assistance” to being inconsistent with any limit on that UI assistance.

The premise is ridiculous. Fundamental game design requires decisions on the level of information players receive. The decision to not have a mini map does not imply Ow team should want no UI assistance. Simply that from a design point they thought OW worked better without a mini map. If we have to consider an all or nothing approach maybe there should be no visual cues for abilities? That’s the UI helping you ‘cheat’ too. Just predict their actions or listen for sound cues. I hope you find the idea of OW without visual cues as ridiculous as me - but by your own argument you need to want to see the enemy with wall hacks all game if you want those visual cues on abilities. It’s all or nothing after all right? Anything else is inconsistent
