If you hold your Ult for more than 2 teamfights, you suck

Stop waiting for the POG play. If you can secure 1-2 kills with it during a teamfight, USE IT. You will have it again in no time.

You will not have back in ā€˜no time’. Ult charging got heavily nerfed going into OW2 because tanks were the premire batteries for everyone. With one less tank to shoot at all the time and one tank providing 30% less healing and dmg charge ults come on line in painfully slow time. It doesn’t help matters that self-regen on supports removes a portion of ult charge gained as well as armor cutting dmg output into tanks further slows how quickly ult charge could be given. I’ve had countless matches where both teams don’t get ults online until 90-120 seconds into the game.

Ult economy is very important. You have little reason to spam your ult needlessly. If your team secured a 1-2 picks you have little reason to use ults in a 5v3. If your team just burned 4 ults and Kiriko ult is the only thing left, sure as hell, I’m not using it until we have the team in a position to actually benefit from the ult and saving it for next fight if its really needed at all.

Me on Zen, not caring.

Except most characters can have it literally every other teamfight. But ya sure. Hold it for that special moment.

Oh this is 100% me playing zen.

I’m like now? Nope. Now? Nope? Now? (half the team dies). Welp…

RINSE AND REPEAT 3 MORE TIMES

At the same time, don’t expect me to just drop an ult when it’d get cancelled/me killed.

There’s ā€œsavingā€ an ult and then there’s not using it because someone on the other team is holding their one button counter of it till you use yours.

Knowing what characters can ā€œlol nopeā€ your and your teammates ult is important and relevant. Get that DVA to drain her matrix. Bait out the Kiriko bell. Make Ana burn her sleep dart… you might see some more ults then.

But yeah… sometimes people wait for the perfect moment that never comes. If you’re holding your ult for that long… maybe make it work NOW.

I’ve held onto mine not for PoG but because I don’t see an opportunity to use it effectively.

My last game as Mei, I had her ult ready to go for 3 teamfights. I ended up using it on the third when three of the enemy heroes tried to run in and capture the point my team was holding, but the previous 2 fights? There was only one enemy hero I could have used it on, and Mei’s ult is too valuable to waste on a single hero.

Likewise with Bastion’s ult. I had it, I could have popped it, but the enemy team was too spread out so I knew they’d get out of the way if I tried since the fight was happening in a fairly open space.

It’s not always as simple as ā€˜team fight starts, ult pop now!’

You can certainly do that, but more often than not I find that the enemy team is trying to bait you into popping your ult at an inopportune moment before they counter with ults of their own.

Depends on the ult though. If it’s something like High Noon or Meteor Strike it’s best as a reload when needed.

Of course, sometimes you do want to use your ult, but then sometimes you want to save it.

I’ve saved my Hog ult through multiple teamfights on one payload map (can’t remember the name of it, but it’s the one set in Rio I think? With the carnival float payload) and I could have popped it at any time to kill the enemy DPS or the tank, or at least yeet them away to give my team more breathing room. But instead I waited until we’d pushed the payload closer to a checkpoint then popped it so that the payload would get over the line.

It’s really going to depend on your situation, which is what I said, it’s not always as simple as ā€˜team fight starts, ult pop now’, because I guarantee you if a skilled Ana is on the enemy team and you try to high noon at the start of a fight, she’s just going to sleep dart you and then you’ve wasted it.

I report my entire team if they lose an objective when all of them have ults. All of your Q buttons can’t possibly be broken can they?

It is so hard to time that ult istg.

Yeah 2 team fights seem an appropriate threshold. Kinda weird that there are zero chances of using it … unless you are rolling them so hard, which should be an exception and then doesnt matter I guess.

At this point duplicate is so weak that you can just use it for the free life.

I’m always like ā€œokay I’ll ult this fightā€ then we keep killing two immediately when the fight starts and I’m like ok maybe I’ll wait.

Jokes on you. It took me two team fights to get ult

That philosophy might work for a dps or a tank, but for some supports, holding your ult as a counter tool is significantly more valuable. Primarily Lucio and Zenyatta, but Mercy and Brigitte can be used to counter ults or pushes as well.

Although they can be used defensively, Ana, Kiriko, Baptiste, and Moira ults are best used as initiation tools. But should be used with a coordinated purpose. Using them just because it’s been two fights is foolish.

this is actually a mild take . yes ult economy is important, but in gold games it’s not that decisive. Kiriko on her own can benefit from the ult even in solo usage situations so that’s a bad take there.

Me waiting to take a team fight as 5 to use rush while my team staggers for 3 minutes: :sob:

(I don’t mean all 5 in rush, just all ready to take a team fight rather than try 3v5)
