If you go 5v5... remove role queue in comp

Let the players be creative. Since you remove so much choice for the players give some back.

If they’re gonna remove role queue then there’s literally no point in having 5v5

The whole point of 5v5 is to try and have faster queues while keeping in role-lock

Uh, no offense but 5v5 without role queue would just be super broken… The purpose of 5v5 is to have 1 tank, not allow people to form 5 hero mega-GOATS with buffed tanks.

I would honestly be surprised if open queue modes existed without also having a form of role limit to 1 tank.

What’s your reasoning behind this? I don’t see it being beneficial in anyway at all

I do not want to play goats. 4 tanks 1 healer.

Trying to force an FPS game to be a MMO dungeon queue system hasn’t worked out too well for Overwatch in the last 2 years.

Has it gotten any more popular?

If anything less people are watching/playing now then a few years back when it was fun.

Removing role queue would just generally be more fun.

Which is why open queue is the more popular mode, right?

We saw people flooding back in droves to play the game when they added open queue, right?

-5v5 open queue
-but all roles must be selected
-only variations of 113 or 122 comps are possible
-instead of reworking every tank only rework sigma (duh)
-undo powercreep by nerf healing and burst damage
-add supports that aren’t healbots
-add more dps and tanks with a self sustain skill so players arent so dependent on a healer
-tank busters already exist that can punish multi tank comps it’s why they exist lol

smart devs would do this but the ow team has so little faith in their own ability to balance their own heroes that they are just going to restrict players from playing the game certain ways. HOWEVER, they are still willing to change over half the roster to do accomplish 5v5 which is ironic. I for one am not looking forward to the role queue roulette before each game to see which team gets the better tank or the better snipers

no role queue is gonna be me and 4 dps every game

this game has never been a pure fps gane so idk what you’re talking about…

They will balance around 1-2-2.
I don’t like the change but we need role q

Yes.

/20chars…

Sorry, but no. The majority of the playerbase that left did not come back to stay when open queue was implemented.

No. Giving too many options to people tends to cause synergist effects that can lead to problems. By having fewer options it makes balance easier to maintain because a bunch of effects can’t spiral out of control by the effect of combo and effects stacking.

As the roster grows in time with OW2 the amount of possible synergistic effects people can make can lead to teams in future that might be really strong as a combo, but completely fail when you take out a vital unit even when each character on its own might be kind of ‘eh’ and not that outstanding.

By maintaining these restrictions the dev team has the option to add more of some ‘X’ effect to a role and not worry about it becoming a compounding effect. Tanks and support can compound their healing and shields to high degrees at the moment. With one tank that’s no longer a problem ever again.

The dev team simply has to never give tanks the ability to heal their team and you can never have a whole team that leads to say healing effects. If they take out Mei from DPS we can never have pseudo duel tanks again with Wall + Shield combo.

Guys, bad news for those of you who try to advocate for removal of Role Queue altogether: it’s here to stay. However, according to today’s AMA, Open Queue may be on the cutting block. I’d save your energy arguing for this nonsense and concentrate on keeping the option of Open Queue at least available as an alternative.

Quick play classic has always been in the game. Your talking about OQ competitive. People don’t play that mode because it not the official mode. It’s considered a joke simply because it’s not the default just like anything under the arcade card. Also the overwhelming majority of people play QP according to Kaplan.

People did not flood back to the game when LFG 2.0 was released. A lot left and even more still it’s why they have to keep loosing the matchmaker every x months. This is why it’s common nowadays for silvers, golds and GM players to be in the same QP games whereas before the lowest you would ever see was high plat.

But severe lack of content is another reason why people have not come back, not just RQ or queue times.

…is what people tell themselves when they think role queue is less popular.

I know. Tell that to the OP.

To be fair open queue is a lot more fun

People should be more worried about the 5v5 format than RQ tbh. It’s a significant core design change. Reminds me of what happened with GunZ the duel and it’s sequel.

People were not happy and Maiet is no longer a company. Blizzard probably doesn’t have to worry about becoming defunt though, COD always needs more developers.

How do you gauge popularity? 2/2/2 RQ was in the game in the form of LFG and people did not use it at all. It had to be forced onto the entire playerbase for it to be used. Does that make it popular? New players are funneled into QP not QPC. You’re ignoring significant advantages of it being the default mode.

OQ had it’s issues and personally I believe the reason for it’s retirement revolved around OWL. Some people think it was 5 dps in their competitive games(lol) even though that was 100% a QP issue. Some people wanted it because the MM was placing 5 Mercy one tricks on the same team in Comp while giving the other side a more balanced set of players. Some people wanted RQ because it gave them 3 chances at not being hardstuck gold and a lot of people did get higher ranks with the new system.

Other than balancing issues, which both system have, the major issues being complained about of OQ had could have been resolved with a better LFG/Guild/Clan/Social system.
RQ on the other hand you can’t really fix with simple solutions. Not being able to flex on the fly is a major downside and what really killed the game for me. Then playing some characters in a role you feel like you have absolutely no power to have an impact on the game whereas before you could exist. A lot of situations you end up feeling like a hostage to the whims of your team and what’s worse is that you still get bad comps, which is what 222 promised to fix.

It’s such a crappy feeling to be stuck on support getting dominated by some crappy Widow when you have a GM Ball in your backpocket specifically learned because of the lack of counters to Widow. How do you fix this?

RQ came with a lot of unfixable downsides just to semi dictate(which is bad) what other players can do. And now it’s undergoing a dramatic rework which will probably kill the game for the still existing players same way rq did and there’s no guarantee that it will be better than what exists or attract a new playerbase to replace the people lost.

I’m hoping for the best but I have serious doubts. I’m also banking on all the old Blizzard talent that has left in recent years head over to Mike Morheim’s new company and create a new hero shooter there.

thx, no more GOATING
