I understand why people don’t like Hog, or Orisa, or even Reinhardt. However, Sigma doesn’t seem like he should be as hated as he is.
From my POV, he does great damage, and has two damage mitigation skills and a stun, but he doesn’t actually tank damage as well as a character like Orisa. He doesn’t deal damage as well as Hog, and despite having two MTG skills, they’re still worse than Reinhardt’s barrier.
Oh, and his ult isn’t that great. It has high damage potential and great CC, but its easy to stop by killing him or stunning him in some way. Since he’s a tank, any accurate stun will straight stop him. even other sig rocks, and those are slow to start.
I vehemently disagree. Barriers help keep the game interesting as they force you to think about where you’re shooting, and consider whether or not burning down the barrier is worth it. Would you really rather play some shooting gallery?
I don’t hate sigma at all. tbh I don’t really find most tanks annoying unless they’re overtuned. sigma is fine imo because, as you said, he doesn’t do anything too well, and crumples way faster than most tanks when focused. The only thing I don’t agree with is his ult-sure you can stun him out of it but it’s still really strong especially if the sigma plays around cover.
I think the gameplay loop of breaking his shield, he uses grasp, he gets overhealth which by the time you whittle down, his shield is back and then repeat is just not very exciting.
The flowchart for “is shooting this weak barrier a good thing to do” is almost always yes. That’s not why people find sigma annoying, at least now that double shield is permanently dead. He’s a bit of a noobstomper. Rock hurts, juggling in and out of his barrier is impossible to shoot if you don’t know what do do, etc.
People rarely even use his over health to its full potential.
I’ve seen sigmas eat 500+ worth of overhealth and still take cover before it’s depleted. only to wait for their overhealth to disappear and for the shield to recharge.
I’ve learned that this loop is a noob trap. You’re supposed to use your shield to move up with your team. From there, you have two options.
1.) Use grasp and bait people into shooting you. From there, let your shield rest and health tank while in the teamfight.
2.) Save grasp as a backup plan while you alternate between health tanking and blocking damage with your shield in the teamfight.
Personally, I find that gameplay loop really fun, but I love tanking.
That’s true, but the amount of people I see shooting a shield they can walk past is still concerning. You can always shoot the shield to ensure he doesn’t have that, but while you do that, he could be taking potshots at your allies or you could be shooting a squishy to kill them or whatever. Really, it depends on the scenario at the time.
Yeah, I mean I’ve played Sigma and I do think he can be enjoyable to play as, but going against him can be irritating. People treat his grasp like Zarya’s bubbles and just blast him instead of denying him the Overhealth and make him 10x more annoying to deal with. I think Sigma also had like the highest amount of damage mitigated out of every tank after the second beta, so he’s by no means weak.
He’s tough to deal with because so little actually penetrates his grasp that he ends up feeling invulnerable a lot of the time.
I hate playing against him. Shield + damage absorption + blue life + the rock… omg I feel I just can’t kill him
While playing him, his primary attack is probably what I struggle the most with especially when I try to be smart with bouncing.
He also feels kinda “slow” as he’s mainly here to asborb damages and control specific target. He’s not a diver like many other tanks.
Sigma has “off tank” damage output and utility, while having “main tank” durability. He has very few actual weaknesses and does very well in most metas.
Like, consider that even with the busted beta 2 version of Junkerqueen, Sigma was a very close second place in terms of win rate. Rush (and JOATS) comps are ostensibly Sigma’s weakest matchup, and he was still winning matches at almost the same rate as JQ herself.
From my personal experience he basically does nothing unless youre caught without something to mitigate his ult (assuming you can’t just evade it in the first place) or you get hit by the only threatening factor he has: rock
I didn’t like him at first cuz he has no shoes……eww, man feet ( any feet really), but then I read up on his history and found out why and I have more respect for him. I know this is silly, but it was why I didn’t like him at first, he’s a great hero though so no complaints there
