Not an American doing a stereotypical accent like 90% of Aussie characters ever written. Ever heard Claudia Black as Chloe in Uncharted? Perfect. Ever heard Yvonne Strahovski as Miranda Lawson in Mass Effect? Top taters. Ever heard Hugh Jackman’s broad accent? Or Geoffrey Rush’s cultivated accent? Grab someone who sounds like that and it’ll be gnarly as nuts.
You can break new ground, Blizzard. You can do what so few developers have done before you; you can have an Australian that sounds like an Australian, and not what Americans think we sound like. Chris Parson is fantastic, but sometimes we just need an accent that isn’t exaggerated.
The power to change the world is in your hands, mate
I mean D.va’s voice isn’t up to par either
it’s all americanised
plus you know all the americans would be all “They don’t even sound australian” because it wouldn’t sound like something out of crocodile dundee
everyone thinks australian and they hear steve irwin (rest in peace) in their brains like an average non-bogan actually sounds like that
i think its something we just have to accept is going to happen, for accents to be americanised and whatnot. its sad.
I’d rather not have the accent that I have, or the accents that my friends have, being a joke. I hate the accent but that doesn’t mean someone who doesn’t have it should make fun of it.
The SyFy show Eureka was so good but it was bloody painful to watch because of the absolute GARBAGE-TIER ““attempt”” at an Australian accent that the one Aussie character did
You’d think America’s weird obsession with Australia would lead to them being able to do better Aussie accents, but no.
The problem with Tracer’s voice isn’t her accent, is the pitch.
Can you imagine if they did that to Doomfist? Or Sombra? Sometimes it’s nice to just have an accent that sounds real, and a normal Australian accent is just so bloody rare in videogames. Some of Overwatch’s voice acting is amazing purely because it sounds so authentic while also being interesting to listen to, like Brigitte, or Doomfist, or Orisa.
At least Tracer’s voice actor is British. She actually just sounds like that, except a little less hyper.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think they’re doing it to mock anybody. It’s just that sometimes it’s nicer to have a more normal accent. Australians sound nice.
