If Two DPS Slots Are Taken

Do not lock a third.

“But I want to play what I want to play.”

In a perfect world, we would all get to play what we want to play all the time. But we have to contend with reality instead. And the reality is there’s too many DPS mains. Waaaay too many. This means that the statistical likelihood of getting to pick the character you want to play decreases that much more per match compared to tanks and supports.

“I shouldn’t have to always fill.”

You don’t necessarily have to always be the one to do so. You can stick with your choice and play chicken with your team mates, hoping someone cares about the W just a little bit more than you do to switch. Or, you could invest yourself in another class as well.

“Tanks and supports are boring to play!”

If you think mecha fights and infinite Parkour are boring, I mean, where is your imagination? Why are you even here?

“To kill things.”

Okay, but you know how many games revolve around or include mechanics that let you kill things? Heck, do you know how many FPS games mechanically feel better than Overwatch? The initial Modern Warfare and Black Ops games, before all that future nonsense, are still cream of the crop titles. Same with Battlefield. Seriously, Soldier feels comparatively worse to play as a typical FPS character than Soap does.

And even better, because the character mechanics are more equivalent across classes in those games, it becomes much more down to mechanical skill than it does in Overwatch with harder counters. So you can take pride in your top-tier mechanical skills and aiming prowess in an environment that is more appreciative of it.

“You’re being really facetious right now, you little Lucio one-trick.”

I get to one trick as much as I do because y’all don’t like playing support, much less Lucio; that’s number one.

Number two, I like my job. However, anyone doing their job is a two way street. Most healers cannot outheal the WWII-esque blitzkriegs coming towards your face without shielding. It doesn’t matter which healer I pick in such environments. We’re going to lose more often than not. I need someone to shield us and tank damage. Speaking of which–

:heart:THANK YOU TO EVERY TANK OUT THERE WHO PLAYS WITH ME. Y’ALL THE REAL MVPS RIGHT NOW, I SWEAR.

“Prost!”

Triple DPS is viable, so, the burden is more or less on you to adapt to your team if they decide to run triple DPS. Sorry that you do not have final say in a team-based game; however, thoughts like that are… Selfish. Bet you never heard that one before.

I’ve won as 6 dps 2x in a row then had a 2-2-2 comp and we got stomped. How about you stop trying to force others to play how you want them to eh? I’ve also won as full support teams more than anyone should. Just stahp.

You’re not gonna win any battles preaching to the choir on the forums. I wholeheartedly believe people should play what they want to play. I want to play support, it just so happens that less people want to do that. I’m not crestfallen if a team gets slapped together where nobody cares enough about winning to put together a valid team comp.

It happens.

Viability, both in individual characters and combinations are…

Subjective.

A “valid” comp can be just as likely to fail as a comp that isn’t considered “valid”

If people aren’t doing their jobs properly as their character, that’s another problem entirely.

Most of the games I lose nowadays are because of three-five DPS. I’ve gone Moira to try and get more primary heals and damage off, and I’ve gone Orisa- usually my first choice- to help shield the little Rambos running around.

So I definitely try to do my part to flex when I’m in that situation. Just seems like y’all don’t want to.

As a support main, I will gladly pick the 3rd dps if it makes sense to do so which happens pretty much every time the enemy runs Pharah because apparently no one can aim

Pharah can’t aim either, at least in my ELO. Had one on the enemy team that couldn’t really punish our Junkrat. It was kind of sad.

Teach me your secrets. How do you do strikethrough text?

Yeah, the problem with your argument is all 3 DPS players have to actually be good to make up for the lack of healing or tanking. And more often than not, at least 1 of them is going to be dead weight.

I’ve done triple DPS on a rare occasion that the current two DPS are struggling. Usually that happens when I’m off-tank such as Roadhog. Has actually turned some matches around in my team’s favor.

I’m wondering though, what happens if the two DPS who have taken the slots aren’t actually good and should swap?

This is another thing. I try to have faith in people that they’re picking characters they know how to maneuver with. However, if stuff ain’t dyin’, or its dying slower than we are, whose fault is it at that point?

“The solo-healer’s, of course.”

Welp.

Maybe because there’s too many DPS mains and none of them know how to play tank or healer XD

I mean, at that point, if they don’t get it together or switch, you’re kinda boned, aren’t you?

why cant the other two people who picked dps switch? why is it first come first serve lol, some people don’t load in fast enough and some people load in super fast.

team cooperation is nice but its not really fair to force people into being the support or tank every game

Triple DPS with 1 tank vs a team with 1 brig is impossible

No, you are just saying the people who instalock are allowed to keep their choice, but people who pick after are supposed to flex. This is not how it works.

I load in slow semi-regularly, and I have contingency plans:

  • One healer taken (Lucio)
  • Two healers, one/no tanks (Orisa)
  • Two healers, two tanks (Soldier)

Whatever happens after that just happens.
