Then why isn’t a feature rolled out to make sure games have good team comps. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I feel the number one reason games are lost or not good quality are because you either have a bad team comp or playing against a bad team comp.
The second reason games are bad is when you have people who don’t play character roles correctly (ie rein focused more on hammer than shield, Moira focused in damage instead of heal etc) there needs to also be something in game like a tutorial mode for each character that teaches you or at least gives you the run down of them.

Because “Good” team comps come in all shapes and sizes and changes dynamically throughout the match. You may start with a standard 2-2-2 on King’s Row Attack, but realize only a Quad Tank Slambulance is needed to take the first point, if your opponents are heavily fortified. A role queue would dictate the meta, and that is why it is an idea that would likely not solve any real problems.

Don’t you find it odd you’re playing a game that’s somewhat about hero switching but yet a lot of the times players find themselves feeling like they should only play specific comps, have a specific number of players on a specific number of roles depending on the comp, and if you do switch mid-match it’s likely you’re going to be switching between heroes in your same role or not even switching at all.
Despite all of this, Blizzard has stood by the principle of, “Players can pick whatever they want, whenever they want.” Like people don’t want role queue but to a certain extent in competitive, players are already “locked” into roles whether they want to be or not.
Overwatch is weird.

Whenever I get a bad comp, I just think, well, if we can kill them before they kill us, we’re golden.
It’s difficult to say comp really matters (it does) but, it’s dependant on a million different things, there’s a lot of depth to Overwatch, and this depth is seperated between 27 heroes with 12 players in a match, it can’t really be calculated, everyone has different strengths and weaknesses.
I’ve gotta say though, a 3-1-2 comp, I’ve seen it dominate many matches.
When you have a Soldier, Genji and Tracer, with 2 healers and a Dva/Winston. that’s pretty terrifying.
TL;DR: Comp is relative, there are many factors to take into account.

Team comp is important, at a pro level . That’s about where it stops and where just playing as a team takes over as the top factor in how you do.

Because it’s not that simple.
I really think a role select queue system could work if done right. You limit hero selection for the individual based on role. You could do something like:
Main Tank: any tank
3x “DPS”: includes all offense and defensive hero pools as well as off tanks (dva zarya hog) and (maybe) symmetra.
2x Supports: any support (including sym and maybe some others?)
You could also optionally have a “flex” role which the player would have the whole roster to chose from (instead of 1 dps or 1 support). The reasons why I think it would work is it would reward main tank and support mains with faster queue times while letting people play the role they want to play. Those who select DPS or the possible “flex” role would have longer queues but it will be worth the wait to play the heroes they want to. The layout I suggested also would still allow for unique comps (quad tank still possible, etc).
A reason why it might not work is DPS/flex players MUST be flexible in their hero pool. Countering heroes is a big part of this game and I think there are too many one-trick/ stubborn players out there
Team comp is just one factor.
People blame team comp because it is easy to do so.
Probably most of the time it is because your team is playing bad and if you tend to blame team comp often it’s probably because you are not good enough to know WHY and HOW your team is playing bad.

Do comps matter? Yes. Having a partner in your role makes a hell of a difference. 1 tank vs 2 makes controlling space very hard. 1 healer means he can’t healed from the other, and you only have 1 team saving ult. 1 DPS means you have 1 team killing ult. By the way off-tanks are pretty much DPS that give the main tank a majority of their punching power.
The only reason comp matters is because someone on your team is sure to tilt, or only know how to play their character with the support of another certain type of character…
Instead of focusing on how they can help their team, they are always focused on how their team can help them.
A team game is severly lacking in actual teamwork. The only time you need specific characters in this game is if you are an organized team with a well planned and thought out strategy… and need those specific characters to execute it.
Otherwise, it is better to have everyone on their best hero working together to help enable each and every member on their team.
But, too many people are too self centered to ever think about how they can help their team. Only about themselves climbing.

The principle is that you can switch whenever you want. The goal was for people to switch to what the team needs, doing everything short of cheating to win. Hence the competitive mode. But it’s just devolved into people playing whatever character is “fun” personally for them. Not saying you shouldn’t, but it is competitive. The whole premise is people compete against equally skilled players doing everything to win. There are 27 heroes, I’m sure you can have fun with more than 1.
But people take principle out of context as a reason to be an toxic and uncooperative.
I think role queue would solve the problem of imbalanced hero pools, like one team getting all support mains and another team getting all DPS mains.
I know trying to take in a pharah without D’va or any hitscan is going to result in a loss.
I know trying to soloheal usually results in a loss.
I know 5dps only works very rarely.
The main and super-big argument against this is that the team comp will and should generally change during a match. That and everyone would probably queue as DPS
If you want just a shield play Orisa. I hate that misconception. Rein uses shield yo block certain things, but he is a brawler tank. If you are not playing rein aggressively you are wasting his utility with just being a shield.

This would be true if you never ran into situations didn’t come up were you have something like 5 dps and a mercy. Skill will carry you only so far because being willing to make changes in your line up can swing the tempo of the game. The mentally of oh just work with the team while a good thought should not just end there team comp is effected by this as well.
You can win with all of these but everyone needs to understand what needs to happen for any of them to work.
