If someone is learning a hero in your game

and therefore the match becomes unenjoyable for you due to the one sided stomp, but enjoyable for the learner, since he is gaining experience at the hero
is that a net positive or a net negative?

Tough, we all were new players once.

Bro I don’t even think it’s enjoyable for the person learning the new character. As a flex player I hate trying to make new characters work

From who’s perspective? The community as a whole or the individual who had their hero robbed?

Either way, I would not enjoy that match and I would much rather spend my time actually having fun.

Negative, IMO. People can (and should) learn the basics of a hero in VS AI instead of going directly to QP.

Possibly, but AI doesn’t move or play like a person. IMO, it’s better to get the mechanics down in QP, mostly because there you are learning against real peeps. (Well, most of the time, except when blizz put random bots in lol.)

The AI is so easy there isn’t a whole lot to learn that you couldn’t learn in the practice range though. Would be better if the AI acted more similarly to actual players and wasn’t a total push over.

see as long as you are in the ball park of your skill rating it doesnt affect as much as you think when you learn new hero.

see arrge has 40 mins on this sombra and learning he even often presses wrong keys, doesnt seem well versed in sombra hp hacks etc still he does well enough to counter enemy ball.

After 20 mins in practice range, you should go QP to practice more, by practice I don’t mean going with the: “Im definitely 100% going to lose this match cuz Im playing a new Hero so don’t say a thing to me or I report you”-mentality. As long as you try, that’s not throwing.

Also, QP is not just the “to practice mode”, is the most played mode and default mode of OW.

If it’s QP I wouldn’t care at all. If it was comp I’d probably say something… but only if we’re 5+ minutes into the match and they’re still at 0 elims or extremely low healing lol

There’s always going to be growing pains, whether they’re from old players learning new kits or new players learning in general.
So long as it’s not in Comp I don’t really have an issue with it.

Yea it sucks to have someone kinda obviously struggling because they’re learning, but they can always swap to something more comfortable and or the MM could’ve just put together an awful lopsided match. It does happen, played a like sub 3 min Hollywood game with all my team playing their most played heroes and we got destroyed. It wasn’t even sorta close, I think we had a grand 1 kill at best for the whole team.

When I do this, if I’m not contributing anything - what I think is anything - then I swap back to one of my comfort picks.

Which makes it kinda hard to try new heroes, because my bar of “contributing” is always set lower for dps/tank.

A net positive. I focus on my own play and what I can do in a match so I’m not effected by how my teammates play.

i wouldnt notice, not saying anyones bad im just not paying much attention beyond if someones afk

Yeah, but you can play 1 or 2 games to test the hero instead of going to QP.

You can play some games VS the hardest AI while having easier AI as teammates. That can be helpful to learn a hero and how the hero interact with other heroes.

IMO, you should go to vs AI and then, to QP.

Correct. The only reason I play QP instead of Comp is that Comp games last longer (and I cannot leave early if I do not like the game mode).

I always practice genji in sniping.
Some teammates don’t like that, but since the chat disabled by default now, I also disabled the chat, so I don’t care.

I’ll try that, but still they won’t play like actual people do. But not a bad idea.

If it’s comp i just report then for throwing.

As their performance is indistinguishable from throwing, it seems justified.

Yes!

If it’s someone new to Rectangle Man.

Time to break out the Orisa, Bastion and Mei combo.
