If she is so OP, then what is the problem?

As a Sombra/76 main that’s taken a serious hit in the past few weeks from competitive bans, I’m happy to say that I’ve been able to start getting into a few more Sombra games this week and seeing a HILARIOUS uptick in crap sombra players on the other teams.

Since she’s been perma-banned, there has been a lot of sentiment about her being an “overpowered” character that is unfair to play against. I think this is causing a bunch of DPS players to choose her when available, even though they have no idea how to express her skills and set dumpster fires on their own team… that I’m too petty not to exploit!!

Like I’ll seriously say to myself “don’t pick sombra” when she’s not banned because I LIKE the idea of her not being picked. I don’t wanna add to the banning fuel and think we can reduce some of the complaining/banning by NOT choosing her when available.

The problem is that I get a bit of a “oh… gon’ learn today!” feeling when I see the enemy roll out with a Sombra who almost always ends up being the first to die!!!

Has anybody else noticed this and gotten the same kick out of it? I’ve had Boromir in my head all week smirking “one does not simply Sombra!!” :joy:

Sombra isn’t overpowered. She isn’t really that good.

She is just boring to play against, and with. If you are a tank player, Sombra just means you aren’t going to be playing much of the game. And that isn’t good for anyone.

Bans aren’t always about who’s strong. But about what they do to the game. Hence bans for Mercy too. She isn’t strong, but she breaks some DPS.

Yeah, that’s the funny thing about ban rate statistics; they can’t figure in WHY a hero gets banned.

There’s really only two heroes that get banned based on their actual power - Ana and Zarya. Some heroes get target banned because a player on the other team is really good at them, which I guess is a kind of power.

But Sombra? Wrecking Ball? These dorks get banned because they’re just obnoxious. Their play loop is just “tee hee be annoying and never get punished tee hee” and no one wants to play Where’s Waldo or Sonic Adventure in overwatdh; they want to play Overwatch.

dividing attention, and complicating opponent’s cooldown management is a massive part of overwatch.

sombra, doom, ball, tracer all attack on this axis.

that part of the game’s dynamic isn’t going anywhere, and i seriously doubt if people would be happy with overwatch without those dynamics.

Sure. And it happens that Ball and Sombra are obnoxious. I’m not sure what you’re not catching on to here.

learn to deal with it.

I’m not sure how you missed that very very clear point

I have played exactly 2 games of overwatch where sombra wasnt banned and they were easily the worst matches. Most toxic, least fun. Sombra doesn’t have a counter and she has little punishment opportunity. So you need to be way way better than the rank you’re in to play against a sombra in the same rank

I know how to deal with them. They’re still obnoxious. There’s no reason to put up with obnoxious heroes if the avenue exists to not put up with them.

Maybe you should stop crying about THAT, and learn how to play a new hero or something.

I think it’s temporarily toxic because of how banned she’s been recently.

Now whenever there’s a Sombra-match, the first thing everyone notices is “oh wow! No sombra ban!”

Couple that with newbies “thinking” she’s an OP/cheap-win character, you get a bunch of people picking her without effective usage. They’re usually the first to die from not handling TP carefully and then switch asap

nothing better than loading into a widow map and see ball doom and sombra banned.

and them struggling to fight your widow who is brainafk in highground shooting heads like its a practise range.

When those “BANers” look into a mirror and realize they don’t even deserve to get banned xD

Sombra is not overpowered. She just makes my brain bleed internally when she’s played in a way that’s impossible to punish.

If you just virus, shoot, translocate, it’s simply not possible to punish as a support because the first engagement advantage and the translocator cleansing debuffs.

Hack is also too easy to pull off. I’ve had games in high Masters where you just have to expect hack, virus, translocate every 5 seconds. It’s not fun, it’s not that hard to pull off, yet it farms easy ult charge and withers down supports.

… and then Blizzard decides “ah yes let’s give her +2 stealth for hacking”

THIS in every rank. Everybody knows HOW to beat Sombra. but if you’re running solo, either nobody knows to turn around, or don’t listen to comms. As a mostly support solo , holy poop, she is annoying. Auto bans. If they delayed her translocate or went back to original TL where it took her out of the fight for a bit, or made her less of an assassin, way better IMO. The stealth isn’t even the worst part.

Apparently it is going somewhere because the majority don’t want to deal with it

i actually enjoy FIGHTING Sombra. she’s a fun challenge.

i main Kiri and Tracer, but i can play a bunch of different heroes well, including Sombra

Overpowered? Maybe the word you were looking for was “annoying”. That’d be an accurate statement then.
