By now, we would have had:
- The Battlepass + shop update within 6 months after 2019 bilzzcon (because this is their real intention for making the “sequel”)
- 15 or so seasons worth of content.
- ±10 new heroes.
- ±10 new maps.
- Several new modes.
- Probably the guild system they’ve been mentioning
- And many other…lots of them.
You might not care for the PvE and only enjoying the PvP, but even you people can understand the outrage just based on what we could have had (and should have had). There’s no silver-lining in this.

I disagree that we can be certain this would have happened if we didn’t get OW2. It’s entirely possble that Overwatch would have just stayed in a low maintenance routine similar to alot of “dead games”.

Exactly this. We wouldn’t have had a ton of new stuff, we’d have the 10 minute queue OW1 game.

Making a second account and naming it RedKite was honestly a great idea on my part. Now I can like my posts whenever I want!

The main reason for OW2 is legally speaking to switch the game from P2P to F2P. Otherwise, all those people who demanded a refund would have somewhat of a ground. With the 2 they wiped the place clean and could do anything with it that they wanted.
Um, no. You’ve never played a game that has gone f2p before? lol.
They could’ve done that anyways.
I don’t know if you know this, but lots of games go f2p once they start dying. None of them ever call it a sequel though.

If OW2 didn’t happen all these resources would have been spent on the main game and it would probably be in a better state without things being removed on top of still being some of the most popular games.

If OW2 didn’t happen, OW dies. The end.

OW dies because OW2 was in the making (or at least that is what they say are doing)
You do realize the content drought happened because they were making the sequel, right?

OW2 is literally the same thing as OW1. Everything that has been added as of now, would’ve been added in OW1 also. IT’S LITERALLY JUST A NAME CHANGE.
What the team has been doing for 4 years though? I don’t know.

OW 1 was in a horrible spot before the “sequel” came out. It was flooded with alts and smurfs, no real updates were happening. The game was about as dead as it got.
OW 2 made it relevant again, but a few days ago they destroyed all their good will. The devs just can’t get it right.
If they poured the effort to OW1 like they did with OW2, this wouldn’t have happened.

That is a very good question.

“But the old model can’t sustain the development cost”
That’s why i said they could have put Battlepass & shop update mid 2020. Sure there will be backlash, but they would have had already moved on just like people did with 3 heroes at launch, heroes locked behind BP, etc. Plus we would have gotten everything i mentioned above instead of what we’ve gotten today.
yeah because they have abandoned it for the sequel by their words.
made it relevant for about 2 minutes in last attempt to boost OWL viewership and then people realized it is the same game but just butchered.
This is honestly all I wanna know. I’m not screaming mad about PvE, though I was looking forward to it. I just want to know what they people who were working on PvE were actually doing.

i remember when people thought “only 3 new heroes” was a doomer cope and then they went “well, they said ‘close to 40’ and they’re 35 so they still kept the promise” when they realize it was indeed three heroes

If OW2 didn’t happen we’d still be sitting in queue for a game
Instead of playing other games.
