… probably I will stop playing supports, I won’t be the babysitter of anyone, I want to play an fps game and I don’t want to lose games because I refuse to be a heal bot. On Overbuff Mercy is always more picked, day by day, with a higher winrate, at gm it’s the same, probably soon she will replace Ana. And I know that Ana will be playable anyway, but what if even the other healer in my team refuses to play Mercy? It will be a disadvantage. I don’t even know how so many support players would accept it: choosing not to play the game and helping someone to play it instead of you: this is what hard pocketting is.
(I don’t think Mercy is boring to play, but those interactions between her and Pharah/Echo are horrible and make her 100% a babysitter heal bot)
I get that, but do remember theres another support slot. Me personally as far as supports go I only play bap and brig, but I strongly dislike playing mercy. I love her, but playing her is miserable.
to OP: I don’t believe that Mercy should be mandatory in any sense of the term, but I do personally feel that she should be enjoyed by all players, instead of just the ones who don’t want her to be picked. I too agree with ShadowHeart in that I find her one of the worst supports to play as, and feel that she can very much use some buffs and / or notwithstanding, a rework.
I really can’t see Mercy being a mandatory pick due to Echo, a hero that is almost completely self sufficient with her incredible mobility and ability to constantly trade-out (getting a kill before you yourself die)
Plus, there are 2 support slots in 222.
Same. I play almost healer or tank, because DPS quoue are abysmal, even when I want to play DPS a way more and I get rewards for playing tank and healer.
I like to play Mercy, because she can heal a lot and give a player a second chance, but I also like to play Brigitte, but she got nerfrd really hard. If you play really carefully, she is fine. Moira or Lucio are another good options to heal and make a bit damage to help out dps.
Ana is fun too and with the two tank roles, it’s a way better to play her and her grenade is awesome. Sadly, Echo, Tracer, Genji and some other DPS can easily kill her.
At the moment, we need another fun healer, but it will take months to create a hero or maybe more, because we have to wait for Overwatch 2.
Meanwhile I play just tank, if I want to play dps. Zarya, Roadhog and Hamtaro are pretty good DPS too.
Mercy echo isn’t required. Echo is very good but Ana works well with echo. Although on maps where people would run pharah mercy I’ve seen echo mercy, but that’s most likely because mercy is strong on those maps and Ana isn’t, not because echo mercy is required.
After learning more about how Echo plays, I don’t think she needs or really benefits overly from a Mercy pocket. Mercy has trouble keeping up with Echo. It’s not like Pharah.
For sure, I’ve been playing alot of Mercy with my dps duo on Echo and it’s pretty tough. Due to her incredible mobility it forces the Mercy to constantly decide between full pocketing or not being able to support your Echo at all since she’s such a dive-oriented character she is out of reach almost 24/7.
Pocketing an Echo is like a gamble due to her primary being 3 different shots, and her sticky bombs being 5 different shots, so damage boost really isn’t doing much unless you’re hitting all your shots/sticky bombs.
You full pocket Echo out of desperation, but you MUST damage boost during Echo’s ult to ensure she doesn’t die before she gets her copy ult.
It’s really tricky and I really do not see Echo pockets being common due to how difficult it is for the Mercy from all the constant decisions you have to make🤷♀️
Especially the pocket Echo duel (pocket Echo vs pocket Echo) as Mercy you NEED to know your Echo’s CD’s and you need to boost them or else you’ll probably lose the duel.
It warms my heart like an open bonfire for the soul to know that I am not, as I had once thought, the sole remaining member of my once proud species. But it does pain me that despite being the same species and having nearly identical verbiage and writing styles (to the point that some forum members have deemed one of us to be a copy of the other), we disagree so heartily on the OW related matters I hold most dear.
Like here…I find Mercy to be in excellent shape at this time, needing no buffs whatsoever and certainly no reworks…all recent reworks have gone rather poorly for the mains of the reworked characters, imo
Mercy mains don’t like it either. Honestly mercy’s healing still sucks and she still can’t be played as a main healer but now with echo she’s gonna become meta just to pocket echo and I felt like she was getting close to a buff, lots of people and pro players were acknowledging she sucks, but now she won’t get a buff cuz she’s gonna be meta as echo’s pocket. Kinda like when they said ashe is a buff to mercy, so is echo, so we won’t be getting any real buffs, just stuck in this off healer pocket role for the next few years Maybe that’ll change next week but idk. I haven’t played ow much since echo came out but I’ve seen lots of people saying hero bans won’t affect it and we’ll be in an echo mercy meta
Due to how many nerfs Mercy got after her rework, it’s understandable why you’d be mad, but you should be mad at how Mercy is nowadays, she’s used as an all-around healbot and can only get POTG whilst healing and her ult, that’s it. That’s sad right there.
If Mercy becomes a “”""""""""“must pick”""""""""" because of pharah echo AND ashe because of this new update, Ill quit the game, I cant stand pocketing and I cant stand people that think theyre entitled to get a pocket out of me just because Im playing Mercy.
Ive gotten to the point where I have to tell anyone that Qs in as pharah, that they better not get their hopes up for a pocket and shouldnt expect it. Almost every single one gets angry and proceeds to suicide themselves.
I imagine the Echo pick rate will decrease once McCree and Widowmaker are unbanned, and with that the Mercy pick rate will drop too. People are playing Echo a lot right now because one, she’s new, and two, the two strongest counters to flying heroes are not available. Mercy’s pick rate generally follows the pick rate of heroes she synergises well with.
I mean first off there are 2 support slots. Second, I think the role is of a damage boost bot then a heal bot. Third, if you pick the role support, your job is going to be to shockingly support the team rather than be the tank pushing and taking space or the DPS getting kills; you are the one supporting both of them.
I fully understand the mundane task of pocketing a phara from your perspective. What I would say to this is, where is the value?
If you are pocketing a Phara that gets barrage in 30 seconds while still in a poke phase then the Value justifies the pocket. If the Phara gets countered by widow and Mcree and stays on Phara then you have lost equity in that strategy.
What I guess I am saying is, Mercy is really effective when pocketing both dps, she is really ineffective at pocketing or healing tanks. Good Mercy mains understand that DPS have priority healing and boosting at the right times.
Dont get me wrong, I do not think anyone deserves a full time pocket however if that play is creating value and winning teamfights then you have to identify that as your win condition.
I normally play Bap if I play support, I dont pocket anyone unless they make me feel that they are the win condition. So with all that said, I think you heal who will most likely give you the W, if thats Phara then so be it, if its 76 or Zarya then so be it. If they run a Mei and a junkrat and you choose not to pocket your Phara because you have “feelings” about it then you are potentially throwing and hurting your team.
Now, if you want to play Anna and the DPS goes Phara and asks you to play mercy but you do not want to, well then the DPS should change his or her hero to something that synergizes with the Anna. If the team needs Phara to counter composition and you refuse to support the Phara then you are not being a team player.
I was very confused for a moment. Will make sure I check post count. We may not agree, but I don’t see the point of making an account just to mimic you and cause confusion…
