Blizzard knows their numbers are down. I’ve heard they have been sending out surveys asking players what other games they are playing (see Raggtag’s latest video), which tell me they know their base is declining but they don’t know why. Without the newness of the game masking its flaws, the underlying problems of ranked become more apparent. You can’t have a competitive mode be for everyone. People in the community aren’t leaving the game because of one hero they hate. They are leaving because of a cumulative experience that causes frustration. So please Blizzard, stop working on new heroes and minute balances and fix ranked. At this stage, I don’t think clans would be enough. And in order to have a change that feels fresh, you will need to make MAJOR changes to ranked, not just minor tweaks. Make a six-stack q. Make one-tricking a reportable offense, because if you can only play one hero you should really go to qp and get a handle on at least 2 more. Institute an enforced 2-2-2 queue system. Make a hero ban system. Something. ANYTHING. At this point, it wouldn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to be different enough to show us that you hear what we are asking for and want to work towards a better game for everyone. I don’t doubt that you do, but right now players don’t FEEL that way, which only exacerbates their frustration.
Otherwise, players will keep leaving, and without a player base with an interest and investment in the game, your E-sports investment is going to die.
After all, isn’t ranked supposed to be a feeder system for OWL? Even at the highest levels of the game, it is still QP+. You don’t have a guarantee that everyone is on the same page about how the game should be played, and your ‘scoreboard’ still puts more of an emphasis on individual performance instead of whether or not you worked together as a team to win the game.
Please Blizzard. I love this game so much, and have been here since day 1. I am not tired of the game, but I am tired of trying to play a team based game where the reward system and mentality is focused on individual performance. Let us in on what you are thinking, as the community for ideas, and I know people like Jayne and Seagull will jump at the chance to help. But we have to know you hear us, and we have to know you are trying. If only for the sake of your wallets, if anything else.

I’m nervous myself.
Luckily there’s a much simpler solution to avoid OWL from becoming a highly televised “eSports Shooter” with no Shooters.
New Tournament Rule
No more GOATs, and all other comps are viable. And it’s so simple that they can patch it in a very short deadline.
That said, I feel like the devs might just wait and see what happens for Stage 1.
But that means they only got about 2 weeks to see if these Anti-GOATs comps aren’t more than cheese at the Tier 1 Pro level.
I’m still puzzling out a good solution for Ranked.
For Quickplay, just do this:
Or they could just delete Bridgette from the game, and bring her back when they have a non op version of her.
Goats is not enjoyable to watch, id rather see SBB on tracer taking to the sky to stick a pharah, than watch him hold w and left click until the enemy team die.

They send those survey’s out all the time and have for years so it’s nothing new or any kind of sign of worry.

While at times having a teammate stay on a hero in unfavourable conditions may seem frustrating, banning these people is not the way to go. Nobody should be punished for playing a hero that they enjoy.

Good. “esports” are terrible and should have never been attempted with this game. The whole game would be much more fun if people stopped taking it so seriously.

Stick to QP and Arcade. Boom. Abundance of people not taking it seriously.

Wait, wait, wait, all OW has for measuring individual performance are medals and you’re claiming that the reward system is focused on individual performance. What? lol, People aren’t leaving because the game is too focused on the individual. If anything it’s the opposite.

Maybe there’ll focus on their actual games now? Maybe??

Exactly. People are frustrated that they can have all gold medals and still lose 100’s of SR because of unchecked smurfs on an enemy team, throwers/trolls/leavers on their team, etc. etc. This comment should be highlighted and pinned to the top.
There is a difference between trying to win and taking the game too seriously.
Huh?
So what is it you want then? To not take the game seriously and win? What’s stopping you?
…meanwhile, Overwatch won best eSports game of the year
Nothing is stopping me from winning. I do quite well at the game actually.
It’s about peoples awful attitudes and pretending like the game has this huge significant meaning to them in life where a loss in a video game is some kind of huge ego destroying thing.
It always results in the blame game and people telling you to report people and whining about someone not living up to their incredible standards. This kind of excessive seriousness is the result of things like esports and streamers which cause kids to think they are going to make it big playing a video game.
People trying their hardest is perfectly fine. Associating your life worth on a video game is not fine. Games are for fun. Games are a hobby.
Playing games to make money causes a perverse incentive for all kinds of problems that destroy the atmosphere and feel of it.

This applies to literally every multiplayer game. Just how it is.

You realize those awards are extremely scripted right?

I suppose the stock market and shares of over $1 billion in revenue for eSports is scripted too then?
Nononono, If you’re suggesting a 2-limit on one role, you gotta go all through. With forced 2/2/2
No.
If you are trying to use a scalpel to exactly target a problem, you don’t need to whip it around like a chainsaw.
then the last person would just quit the match and every match would be 5v5
