mercy will be banned for jokes for a week, until all those players realize they’re wasting a ban on one of the worst supports in the game.
seriously, who would ban mercy over lucio/kiri rn? those bans would actually make a huge shift in what comps that team could play… banning mercy is useless. that team can still run the meta
why ban mercy when you could ban lucio/kiri, effectively making the enemy team not able to run rush/dive or counter jq. it’d be a free win for a stack that knows how to play rush
tbh i hope hero bans temporarily become a thing, just to show the mercy haters how unimportant she is to the game anymore. the meta is rush and she’s literally the worst support to play into rush. she gets ran over, her ga cd is too long and slow, she can never rez bc the enemies are always ontop of you, and 47hps for single target with no multitasking capabilities is a joke. plus her ult is so awful lmao it counters absolutely nothing

Honestly, I only think hero bans should exist in OWL/similar events, just so we’re not watching Untitled Mirror Match #781,539¾.

i think they can do better stuff compared to hero bans to add flavor to matches
I would ban a Mercy solely because it would weaken the most problematic DPS. Those DPS tend to be the ones that counter my precious Reaper. It’s a nice multipurpose ban and it also prevents my teammate from using her when we desperately need active participation to turn a team discrepancy around. Like, why wouldn’t I ban Mercy?
Albeit, I am also low rank on console. Mercy is HARD meta in that environment. People playing something else tend to get less value than your generic Mercy one trick to begin with.

Why would you ban a hero that is a detriment to the enemy team?
But how can that be? The mercy mains told me she is “trash” and “useless”.

Ha, no you’d never see Life Weaver again, and the game would be better for it.
I do not care if I’d drop rank from the enemy picking ‘meta’ supports. I would be able to have fun playing the game, not worrying about if I’ll get to control my character from one moment to the next.
i actually get this. i played console for 3-4 yrs and mercy is definitely a different beast on there just bc people cant play the other supports/meta dps as well as on pc. on pc it’d be strange to ban mercy when the meta is rush, but console never really has meta’s outside of pocketed hitscan
i miss playing console before ximmers ruined it, i love pocketing hitscan and rush/dive never being a thing

Past few years of pro play has often not had mirror matches. Comp diversity has been much better after goats and double barrier died.
That’s only for the first week or so after a patch. As soon as someone solves the current patch, 90% of teams all move to the same comp. The ones that don’t usually have a roster issue, as in no one can play the required characters at the pro level.

I haven’t watch owcs too much, but the last few years of owl have been fairly diverse, even after the patch has been out for a while. Different teams were better at different comps on certain maps. Sometimes they ran the same comp, especially when it was down to like the best 2 teams. But other than that, variety has been great.
Mercy i can deal with i would rather band 1 of the following… Mauga, pharah, or bastion
IMHO…I think she’d be just fine.
There will be moments, sure, but ultimately there are bigger fish to fry if you have the choice to ban a hero for a match. Ana, Bap, Kiri, Sombra, Phara, Zen, etc., would most likely rise higher to the top more often, when winning or losing rank is at stake.

True. Though I’d rather ban lifeweaver at that point if I had to choose. Lifeweaver mercy support line is the worst but at least mercy damage boost sometimes does stuff and if the mercy is good or the enemy team sucks rez can carry.

I wonder the same thing…and how could they even get consensus? The two supports would ban one thing, the Tank would ban yet another, and the DPS would all have their particular hate, and rarely would any of them line up.
IMHO, I can’t really see them making a system like that work. Inevitably it would cause more harm than good, and just give people more reason to not play the game.
