If Blizzard withdrew Hazard's release

Kind of a shame, venture is very fun to play. Oh well.

I say a lot of negative things about Venture, but “generic” was never one of those things.

OW heroes receiving some negative critique is common. But I think the word “generic” doesn’t come up too often. Its always some other negative quality that I see brought up (Kiriko’s attitude, Illari feeling out of place, Venture being a product of pandering etc…).

These designs are finalized by more than a year of development.

It doesn’t seem like you’re completely aware of how long it takes for Overwatch’s new heroes to be developed or their designs to be locked down. Suffice to say, heroes like Kiriko were in development four years before OW2’s release.

They didn’t.

They have 40 heroes, and their art pipeline is probably clogged with a number of skins that have been in development for years. You have to understand that Blizzard really doesn’t work like other companies, they take an enormous amount of time to get their stuff out.

There was a four year period in WoW where they released no new expansions, over FF14’s three. It was only when FF14’s expansion release schedule was threatening WoW’s subscriber numbers that Blizzard got their development team in gear and started releasing new expansions within the same relative time frame.

The criticisms of Lifeweaver were somewhat valid…

I’m well aware of the amount of time it takes to develop OW heroes, but Hazard looks like a very early concept design.

He does look generic but now that this team has gone cheap in the skins, that might just be the intent.

They want to nudge players to just pay a few dollars more for a better quality skin than the default vanilla meh you get for free

The truth is that I’m still surprised that no one points out how Mercy is practically a copy of the Medic from Global Agenda or Val from Evolve, they are 3 practically identical characters, and those two came out almost 4 years before Mercy.
But still everyone keeps saying that Mercy is super original and a revolutionary design never seen before.

It’s a character every 4 months, which is an even slower pace than the one ow1 had during its first 3 years, which was a new one every 3 months. You can’t even say it’s because of the layoffs because Blizzard still has about 13,000 employees working. While similar games like Paladins, which is developed by a company that has less than 100 employees and isn’t even publicly traded, was releasing characters almost every month and a half until last year, and that’s even though creating a character for that game is much more complicated because you have to create the cards, the talents, the levels, and each character in that game has at least 2 more skills than an Overwatch character.
Although, to be fair, they had the advantage that many of their characters were recycled from Global Agenda, a 2009 game that is practically the sequel to that game, not to mention that they are practically the same game, except that they converted each variable of the Global Agenda characters into a Paladins character.

But even with that, the amount of resources that Blizzard has are so much superior that I honestly don’t think that’s a significant advantage.

Those do not look like OW characters at all.

I’m talking explicitly about Mercy and her gameplay, if I wanted to talk about her design I would show other examples, although Global Agenda does have many other characters and skins that are much more similar to the designs of Overwatch, which is to be expected because Overwatch is clearly inspired by that game, here you can see several examples along with a skin that makes the Global Agenda medic look even more similar to Mercy.

That’s probably because all the new hero designs look like chinese shovelware mobile game characters.

The release cadence would be acceptable if the gameplay was acceptable. Just saying…

So Hazard is more generic than a cowboy? than a cowgirl? than generic soldier dude? Like genuinely, do you know what generic even means?

Kinda is true i wouldn’t miss most ow2 heroes.

Kiriko jq juno maybe (it’s mostly she is fun mobility)

I will even do you one better and give sigma for free to not have along with others :joy:

Glad I’m not the only one. The old concept actually had personality to it even though it was just a 240p snippet of his face and torso.

The new design looks like a cheap knock off of an All-Might action figure you’d find in a thrift store or something.

I am very much inclined to agree. His design is just a big nothing burger

Yes.

Yeah it happens a lot.

I can specifically remember replying to someone and telling them “just give it a few weeks, once you see the new hero enough through out your matches, they’ll feel like just another part of the game… this happens with every new hero release”.
