I’d like to know if anyone has ideas to fix this DPS queue time lasting forever.
For me i’d suggest doing something like League of legends : forcing people to queue at least 2 roles.
Now you may say if people don’t get their actual role they will just throw. That’s why i think it would be good to get rid of separate SR for each role and make it like pre role queue. 1 SR for all 3 roles so people do not want to throw even if they don’t get their role.
At that point, it would be more practical to remove role-queue but keep games locked to 2-2-2 and just assign every person a set role randomly at the beginning of each game, while ensuring that everyone gets to play an equal number of games on every role.
That would fix the problem and allow for a single SR across all three roles. I don’t think people would really like it, though
i’m not so sure about people not liking it. what i’m sure about is that people tagging only DPS don’t like to wait 30mins but if they also tag support or tank, they will most likely never get to play DPS.
yesterday i autofilled all 3 roles for 10games. 8/10 tank 2/10 support 0 dps game.
Easy, stop nerfing tanks and supports to the point where they are not fun, or do not feel impactful.
Well, here’s a hack that my teammates always use to shorten their DPS queue.
Just choose tank/support role and play as a dps!
E.g. Choose ANA and Moira and just DPS, ignoring any healing. Judging by this forum, Moira is one of the top DPS characters anyway.
I think making more tanks and support that people would like to play would help.
Better to use carrot than stick.
You try to hold people’s SR hostage to play a role they’d rather not play and they may respond by simply giving up on overwatch and playing another game.
They could move some heroes to tank role, Bastion is one of the most obvious candidates. Mei would need a lot more changes, Doomfist about in between.
There are so many types of support heroes who haven’t been properly iterated on, just release more support heroes, and make their mechanics more fun.
I think baptiste’s gun could be made much more fun than the current awkward (but powerful) 3 round burst. Make it fire constantly but at a low overall DPS.
The easy answer is nerf reverts to tanks and supports with more targeted hero bans. Ignore DPS youtuber/streamer screaming and just let us play what we want.
I would still throw even if my “dps” rank was at stake. I just want to play dps in a competitive environment. I do not care about my rank, I will climb easily anyways. And if I do not, whatever, easier games.
there’s a trick to do so : Duo with a support or a tank. if you both tag respectively dps/support and support/dps, it will automatically give you the first choice.
what i’m talking about is those who only do solo queue.

Well, putting out more tanks and supports may get me out of the DPS queue, if they are interesting, like, tanking and supporting sucks pretty hard.
I’d alter the heroes which make playing tank or support a terrible experience. I love Mei, and I main her, but I know there has gotta be changes there.
Maybe moving her TO tank would help, Doomfist too, since the mains would follow, and boom, less DPS players, and more tank players.
You could fix the matchmaker so it was after fair matches, but not always matches which were close in SR for ALL heroes.
By letting the maker make more matches, you could speed everyone up.
You could shorten the games by say… realizing that 99.999% of the people know how to get to the point pretty already, so you could spawn the defending team in one of the close points for start, and starting the game sooner.
We also don’t need as long as we get to select heroes, so, there is time saved there - all of it adds up.
Stop making more DPS heroes, theres already more DPS heroes than tanks and support combined
Make more tank and support heroes to encourage people playing those roles
while we’re toning down CC, tone down the out of control mobility that the CC was made to “keep in check” that made playing half the tank and support lineup hell.

basically make playing tank and support something thats actually fun to do, with more options, and not just ten minutes at a time being stunned to the point that you may as well be afk or danced around while your DPS yell at you through the mic because their precious barrier went down for even a split second.
There’s no magical solution. One needs to improve, slowly and steadily, the quality of play for tanks and supports in order to attract more players.
Almost every aspect of this game rewards damage heroes more than the rest, even the UI is bad.
I dream of them adding a 7th(dps) slot to the team while buffing tanks and supports. It would take too much work though

How about buffing the weak tanks (all expect zarya and rein) so that they can tank?
How about buffing the weak supprts (Bap, Mercy, maybe Zen) so that they are not overshadowed by Ana?
There’s no solution. If there’s a roleQ there will always be long waiting times for dps players. Always. That’s the price you gotta pay.
This ain’t gonna change, not even with OW2, so the only advice I can give you is to play other games if you don’t feel like wasting your time waiting for a match.
Half the community has already left, so don’t expect queues to get any better. If you wanna play matches consistently forget about this game, there are better options.
And that the devs just nerfing tanks so much that noone likes to play them is also a reason.
that’s why i suggest having only 1 queue but dps also have to tag either tank or support just like in League of legends. jungle main also tags mid etc etc… i never really see people throwing just because they are autofill.

This is really the only way. People like DPS because they kill. Tanks and supports need to feel like more than targets and spear-carriers for DPS for people to want to play them as much.
