Overwatch being a team-based hero shooter, do you think the ranked system for can be saved or changed in a way to make it feel less frustrating than it is now?
For example, if you’re a support main, I can have excellent healing, damage, the least amount of deaths and doing my best to support team fights, but then have someone going negative all match, not swapping and have the most amount of deaths and then next thing you know, you’re stuck in spawn or see the defeat screen.
I would like to see more modifiers to lessen the impact of losses. Maybe give more SR based on my healing/damage average compared to others in my rank and less SR loss if I meet those thresholds but still lose the game. The matchmaking feels like it’s too calculated on the team as a whole instead of individuality (even if it isn’t).
I don’t like the current ranked system. I don’t know how to fix it and I feel like the matchmaking is designed in a way that is too frustrating and creates a toxic atmosphere. What are some ways you would fix the matchmaking?
I agree it’s super frustrating to essentially carry your team and still lose however if you make the ranked system SR gains or losses based off the scoreboard you will create a scenario where people are more concerned with padding their stats than actually trying to win. Sometimes the two coincide but sometimes they do not.
True, i main support and i finally got to Plat then after that i dropped to silver mainly because the dps either threw or got diffed, had a tank that went 1-14.
Everything can be fixed by simply giving sr based on % performance within the team. It is not ideal but is still way better than being mainly evaluated on how well the other 4 people did in the match.
The reason the solo queue experience is so bad is because no one communicates, and even when they do, they don’t know what’s important to communicate. Overwatch does next to nothing to educate its playerbase about its mechanics, and it does nothing to bring the casual and competitive communities together.
This is called “stat farming” and it’s not indicative of actually meaningful play. Which just adds to my point here. Raw damage, healing, and assist numbers are not the end all and be all of this game.
This is what used to exist in low ranks and, guess what, it encouraged stat farming - which again is not correlated with skilled play.
Team voicechat should be on auto-join by default.
Make the competitive and quick play formats identical for asymmetric gamemodes (KOTH, flashpoint, and clash are already the same to my knowledge). Losing in a single round feels terrible, and giving attacking teams enormous timebanks encourages uncoordinated solo play. Remove the leaver penalties in QP.
Provide resources in the game client for people to learn about things like ultimate & cooldown tracking, good comms, positioning, ult economy, etc. as well as in-depth tips for individual heroes.
Also ideally a dev comment on bans and stuff to assure the community that you really will be fine and / or try to relieve people who are afraid of getting actioned
Making comp actually a place people want to try their best. That’s how you make it better. I don’t think anything less will help
Also maybe tournament modes / lfg. Encourage people to group up with others to play.
they could try Ban - Picks TBH as an option like other games. But allow for the open roster so you aren’t locked into your character but i have my doubts.
i think people would just ban sombra and maybe ana or kiri or juno.
It’d be very hard in OW. Some heroes are good at solokill but have low amount of dmg. Some heroes are the opposite. Some heroes are good at baiting. Some heroes are used for speed boost. Some heroes are good at de-/buffs and assist.
You could then perhaps compare stats with the same hero in the same rank. But it’s still not ez because you can swap heroes anytime.
Also, OW stats has too much noise by its nature. I mean, non-burst damage is often not just meaningless, but harmful.
1st. Send everyone coding the Matchmaking as a loan as Wendy’s cashiers
2nd. Send the rest of the team that is behind the Skill Evalutation system to Subway
3rd. And this one’s my personal choice, When you get demoted, or promoted, becuase you played like a Plat, you go to Plat. When you play like Masters, you go to Masters. But you don’t go over 15 stomps between each win and lose streak
You still have to win though. And the win is worth more than the points stats can give. Can make it max loss/gain of 5 sr based on stats. Though Im just tossing ideas around im not saying it will be better.
Wanna fix ranked?
Kill all the modifiers.
Only ones worth keeping are winning/losing trend.
Sick of winning multiple games in a row just to be hit with expected over and over again and gain nothing, then losing all the SR I gained immediately because I lose one match that was expected.
Plus somehow the modifiers make it so you can lose SR on a win.
it’s a ghost town even during primetime hours. they have to eomm rigg the same pool of people back/forth into teams so each experience winning, in hopes they will keep queueing or buy skins.
ladder will require yet another chaotic reset due to active population deflation. or start making every game feel like a placement (already how it is…with huge mmr jumps but hardly any sr changes → leads to burn-out).
because right now you cant actually have t500 queues being faster than gold, which they are sometimes. even if t500s play more often, they are supposed to be a top%. gold is everywhere and yet it’s the same pool of 40 players reshuffled during primetime with very long queues.
that’s unplayable broken. fake because rigged, dead because fake, rigged even harder because dead.
