So there are a few characters that I have heard many (myself included) complain about that I feel should be a nerfed in some way.
First, there is one change that applies to more than one hero, and that is decreasing the mag size of some heroes or adding a cooldown to their primary fire. The main targets for this are Dva, Genji, Tracer, and Moira. To me and many others, these characters seem to have no downside for just constantly firing. Tracer’s reload time is so quick and her mag is big enough that having to reload isn’t really an issue on most players’ minds. Genji’s mag size seems to encourage spamming, especially when he is constantly jumping over someone. There’s a lot of damage held in that mag, and its pretty annoying as a player to feel that a Genji is missing most of his shots and still killing you. Decreasing both of their mag sizes would make players think before they shoot and removes the the extremely annoying one burst potential Tracer has. For Moira and Dva, I feel that constantly being able to fire is simply annoying, especially when their primary fire is easy to use and maintain. I think adding some kind of overheat to Dvas cannons would be welcome and would make players have to make more conscious decisions on when to shoot. For Moira, maybe she could have a damage bar that acts just as her healing bar, in that healing fills the damage bar. This would promote healing from Moiras who think they are DPS, and would be more fair to players on the other team. With such range and a lock on fire, being able to fire forever and self-heal from it is pretty annoying.
Ok onto the individual changes. I’ll just put these into a dev format so it’s clear what the changes are. These changes are in addition to the nerfs mentioned previously.
Genji
- Remove the speed boost from Dragonblade
- Decrease the sword range of Dragonblade
- Fix the Reflect hitbox to be more reasonable
- Add damage falloff to shurikens
Genji’s ultimate is such a game changer. It allows him to dive on grouped up people and even chain to someone who thinks they are safe. However, it’s extremely annoying to feel like you are out of range or to have successfully juked him in some way and still have him track you down. This happens most when a Genji uses his dash and doesn’t get a kill afterwards. Players think “Ha! He wasted dash, he can’t get to me now.” The speed boost and range say otherwise. I’ve been killed countless times by Genjis who mess up the dash, but still sprint over towards me and hit me from an unreasonable range (unreasonable to me being that I can watch him swing his sword in front of me and clearly miss, but still take the damage). I feel like his ult is already good enough with the resetting dash, and it’s annoying to feel like he screwed up and still have him kill you with ease. For reflect, the hitbox seems broken. The most common occurrence of this is when you are shooting at someone else to the left or right of Genji, clearly out of his hitbox, and still having those shots come back at you. Reflect also seems to cover a wide area infront of Genji, seeming like almost a 180 degree radius in front of him. Sometimes I’ll be shooting a Genji from the side, where he can’t even see me, and he is stilll reflecting. Another instance of the broken hit box is when it seems like a projectile has already hit Genji, but still gets reflected. This is much harder to notice, but I feel like it happens often. An example is when I play Junkrat and I shoot a ball at him. The ball has already passed reflect range and is about to hit him, but in that split second Genji’s reflect works and reflects back towards me. Where he holds his sword to reflect is ahead of my projectile, but it gets reflected anyway. This is less common but still annoying. I don’t know if this issue could even be fixed but I’d just like to point that out. And finally, the shurikens feel like they can be pocket snipers, dealing out a surprising amount of damage from far away.
Junkrat
- Make his projectiles only bounce once
So I main Junkrat and I have a ton of fun with him, but I feel that some kills I get really shouldn’t have happened. Someone will be hiding from the fire or running away and that one bomb I shot high in the air 6 seconds ago comes back down and blows them up. This isn’t really fair. I think making it one bounce would lessen the issue of random kills and would maybe promote taking fancy, more skilled bounce shots.
Moira
- Reduce the damage of damage orb
- Allow biotic orbs to charge the opposing bar (damage charges healing and vise versa)
The damage orb is extremely annoying to deal with. Unless you have a Dva, you have to try and run from it or hope it will bounce away, and usually it doesn’t. It can bring 200 hp heroes down to 100 or even 50 or so easily if the bounces are right, and is way too good at finishing off people running away. Additionally, Moiras are sometimes unable to heal their team because they have run out of heals and have no way of recharging it besides waiting it out, especially if the other team has a rien, winston, or orisa. Decreasing the damage and allowing the orbs to charge the meters would make her feel like more of a solid healer.
And I think that’s it! I apologize for this whole eyeful, but I just feel like I’ve needed to give my mind on this for a while. If you read this far, then thanks so much for reading! Feel free to leave your opinions and suggestions on here as well.
