Side rant - People who think Soldier is anything but S tier are delusional. The guy literally melts squishies with consistent and high damage. He is often scarier than Ashe/Cassidy because there’s almost a 0% chance he will miss.
And now with a Mercy pocket buff he does even more damage. I have always argued that after his base damage got buffed a while back he has been insanely good for how little effort he requires.
I would rather fight a pocketed Ashe or Cass anyday over a pocketed Soldier.
Why? He’s exactly the same as he was last season when Samito put him in low D tier.
Most of the heroes who got nerfed are one’s Reaper rarely interacts with. Two of which are flyers, one is a Sniper, another one can teleport 35m away out of Reaper’s range instantaneously, and the rest all have the mobility to constantly avoid him.
Not to mention two of the strongest Tanks against him got buffs, while the one that’s dominating him currently got the slightest slap on the wrist (which still allowed her D.M. to be long enough to eat the entire duration of Death Blossom).
I don’t see any logical reason why Reaper would be better this season than he was last season, let alone benefit more than anybody else in the roster against these same changes.
Samito keep making these “takes” about balance, and the devs keep balance the game in the opposite direction, and then the game keep being bad, and everyone keep complaining…
Like at some point maybe devs should just try what he said for a patch or 2, see if it work. What is there to lose ?

He’s not the only one, just the most recent one. A lot of people don’t actually look at anything related to Reaper’s stats and draw conclusions from decade-old patches.
It’s almost like he thrives well with heroes who can pocket him. It’s also almost like 4 heroes, known for pocketing Reaper, all got buffs this patch.
What was the reason everyone pointed to when Reaper was meta during Season 1?
Lucio, Winston, Zarya, and Kiriko (and Mercy, but that one’s debatable) were all meta. These specific heroes helped pick up the slack of Reaper’s immobility/vulnerability.
What was the reason Reaper was popular during Season 8?
Mauga meta. Both for being able to stall for time by competing with Mauga’s life-steal and for pairing really well with Overdrive’s complimentary team wide life-steal. Of course, Reaper was mostly a secondary pick during this season since both Mei and Bastion were better at doing his job than he was.
In both of those seasons, when the main meta characters weren’t in play, Reaper was unable to do anything because other characters were better at everything he did unless he had that pocket.
Traecist is big mad from another post of mine where I said it was stupid that Tracer didn’t get nerfed (being one of the most mobile heroes) and then she ended up getting nerfed in a hot fix the next day.
Sorry man but i agree with samito this time, soldier is unplayable with dva in the meta and i find reaper so good this season. Reaper in A tier makes perfect sense imo.
