Lots of posts about Blizz releasing fancy skins favoring… obvious hero types. OK but I figured, is it really this way? So, since I ragequit my last match and wanted to kill some time, I took the time to count the following:
“Skins”: Every skin released per hero in OW2. In the filters, this is Battle Pass, Shop, and Mythic Skin. I didn’t include any competitive, esports, or anything from OW1.
“Age”: The number of months that hero has existed in OW2. For example, Mauga is 10 months old, being released in Dec 2023. Every OW1 hero counts as 24 months old, since OW2 is exactly 2 yrs old now.
“Months/Skin”. This is the average number of months between skin releases. For example, Mauga is 10 months old and has 5 new skins in OW2, so that’s an average wait time of 2 months for him to get a new special skin. Put another way, the lower the number, the more frequently this hero gets a new skin.
The data is both unsurprising and surprising. But it proves out which heroes get skins released the most frequently (Kiriko) and which get ignored (Venture).
Note: This only includes what’s live today. I can see from Blizz posts that with the S13 shop, the MHA collab and the Halloween event… Kiriko, Illari and Mercy each get at least 2 new skins. Even Juno will be getting 1 skin with the MHA collab, which will put her ahead half of the hero roster in skin frequency.
It makes sense for heroes like Illari, Mauga, and Venture to have more skin releases. They’re new heroes and they should be frontloaded with cosmetics.
Well, I am not counting by rarity, only by source. So it’s Shop, Mythic or Battle Pass. The legendaries are usually just fancy recolors of the base skin, so I don’t include those as, I guess “special” coveted skins players like to roll out with.
If we look at OW2 skins by rarity, say Legendary, the data starts to look very different. For example, Sojourn jumps up high because she’s got 2 legendaries you can buy with ordinary OW common coins, while Mercy has none.
But think about that for a moment. Sojourn has more basic skins you can buy with cheap coin, but for Mercy or Kiriko… nope instead they get expensive skins you’ve got to pay up for. See what I’m getting at?
And people believe I am joking when I say that Reinhardt needs more skins. Look at his place on the chart people. It’s time you learned some mathematics. Reinhardt is being oppressed.
Honestly had no clue Ana and Widow had that many. I feel like they’re probably more spread out since launch whereas like, Rein has gotten Optimus, Arthas, Bound Demon, and All-Might in the span of like 2 months and Kiri is getting 4 just next season.
To be fair, this one was kinda crazy. But I prefer hard data on top500 stats; because I’m super tryhard xD
And its not like I benefit from Metas. I’m a specialist. I always play around them.
… and yes, our favorite martian is doing Amazing
I don’t dare to say what changes she may get this tuesday, but she is healing quite a lot; and even if those heals are much higher than Ana in the raw output, Juno’s mobility is what gives her accessibility for dropping those numbers in compared with Ana, for example, which is a more stationary support, and which requires a much more efficient positioning for keeping allies in line of sight
I don’t believe in This one thing is completely OP in Juno’s abilities.
There are quite different things that can be tuned down a bit for Balancing Juno’s kit, with other high end supports; like Bap or Kiriko
By the way, sorry for taking the skins-characters ratio thread hostage for a bit lol
why am i not surprised that Kiriko now has the most skins in the game, even more than tracer the original poster child? i swear Kiriko has to be a self-insert and she was only created because blizzard thought “anime popular, waifus popular. kiriko is our waifu so people buy buy buy ”
You might be looking at the data wrong. The chart at top is how many OW2 premium skins that hero has been given per month since launch. It does not include ordinary stuff, nor anything from OW1. The filter includes only (Shop, Mythic, Battle Pass).
For any premium skin since OW1, see below for the top 10. This would be everything from OW2 plus holidays and such from OW1 but does not include the basic skins each hero gets. The filter is everything except (Overwatch, eSports, OW League).
Tracer jumps up, but still, Mercy, Widow, Ana are near the top. But yea, suddenly in OW2, Tracer has been quickly replaced with Kiriko, and most original OW1 heroes are getting skins much less frequently than the favored waifus.
