Hey, I want to start streaming overwatch, bit I’m afraid I won’t get many viewers or people won’t like me for who I am.
Of course, it takes time to get a following, but does anyone know any tips on how to start streaming on twitch, because I have no idea where to start?
EDIT: basically, what do you like seeing in a streamer? Their skill, personality, consistency, etc.?
EDIT2: ill be streaming on the weekends at twitch .tv/pinkchup/ if anyone is interested
EDIT3: thanks everyone for the kind replies, I love all of you!!
I’m not gonna stream only overwatch, but other games and even art and so on. I hope to get a good start.
EDIT4: Most people are telling me not to worry about viewers. Before this post I was worried, scared, but after seeing the replies and really thinking through it, it doesn’t matter to me anymore, as long as I am having fun myself.
(I have used obs before, but didn’t have a good time with it. Only time I streamed is through shadow play on youtube on private for my friend.)

Don’t stress it! Everyone starts out small and you’ll have to grow your viewership over time. Drop your link and I’ll check it out when I have time.

Don’t focus on how many viewers you have or want, you’ll stress yourself out more.
Just start doing it and have fun.
You will almost 100% start out awkward, have awkward silences, or try to fill in every single bit of silence with something, but I have never met a streamer or youtuber who DIDN’T have this awkward phase. So don’t sweat it.
Let it happen naturally.

Thanks for the encouragement!
My next years goal is to become a really good ow player and an entertaining streamer.
Just hope I won’t be too loud in my streams, I consider myself quite crazy lol.

You start to stream 4 hours at day on 2019 and maybe on 2024 you will start to get viewers. Is not “instant”
Most the streamers xqc, asmon, esfand is cuz they are were “lucky” but you need workout for your viewers these kind of lucky shots only can happen 0.00001% of the time

The biggest tip I can give you is just to be consistent. Stream at a usual date/time and stick with it. Set up boundaries for your chat so that there are guidelines to a healthy chat and a way for people to interact with one another and with yourself; and be patient. Be. Super. Patient.
It takes time to build an audience. Sometimes you’ll have one or two people; other times you might have 10+. Just be consistent, and stream it because you truly love it and want to share it with people.

I’d say focus on yourself on stream. Focus on the game, maybe talk about your thoughts out loud. Thoughts about the game of course. Your strategy or whatever you’re trying to overcome. If you’re streaming Overwatch then try talking to your team about strategies as well. Get conversations going in game. Healthy conversations. Include your chat as time goes on or when you feel there’s nothing else to say

Sadly, that will be a problem, since I’m bad at consistency and I have school. Oof.
Even if it’s for an hour or two, or even just one day a week at a set period of time, it could help.
I actually gave up streaming for that reason, though. I couldn’t keep up the consistency because of uni, and now that I’m done with my Master’s, I just don’t have the motivation to do it again.

Already got all of those down, but maybe expect the being good part lol
I already talk to myself out loud so that’s a huge advantage. Only problem is I sing too much
I’m thinking on days that I don’t feel like playing overwatch, I’ll draw instead. I’m an artist too, so it’ll be fun streaming art ^^
That works! And I’m sure that could be de-stressing, too!

Keep up with your chat (at first, obviously you can’t keep up with hundreds of viewers later down the line). Having a good relationship with those watching and interacting with them feels good for both sides. It also makes them want to come back knowing you take the time to answer their questions or read what they write. I used to go through low view count OW streams a lot, and that was the biggest problem I saw. When the streamer wasn’t interactive, they got few viewers to keep watching for a while. Be yourself while streaming as well, people can tell when you are acting and it makes it harder on yourself

I love interacting with people. Hope I get enough comments to actually talk to/about though lol
The only problem is im a bit shy showing myself to public because im loud and i can embarass myself at times, but when i get comfy, ohhh booyy…

relax, be you, if they gravitate to your personality is up to them, it’s better that way than trying to fake it and be stuck to fake it for the rest of your streaming time.
it’s gonna be a hard sell if you’re not grandmaster/top500
but also i think you could try and come up with a theme, people love themes, like onetricking a character and embodying that persona for fun
(not faking it though ^^).
if you’re gonna be interactive with stream make sure you have a second monitor or have an ipad or phone you can read the chat whenever you want.
that’s about it.
good luck, may you become the next TimtheTatman.

My biggest advice would be to network as much as you can. Twitter, Instagram, Discord. Go to people’s chats and get to know others and they’ll probably want to get to know you too.
As far as the tech side of it goes, I would suggest having a friend look at it for you when you first go live to get an idea of how your audio levels are, and then you’ll be able to fix it at the beginning rather than finding out after the fact nobody could hear you or something. I don’t know much else about it tho (my partner helped me set my stuff up
)
Most importantly, have fun and don’t stream for the numbers!

Be yourself, be kind, say hi to your viewers, don’t try to imitate others, and just play!
Tag your stream with your main to add an extra way to have people find you. For example, to find small streamers I may be interested in, on twitch I’ll use the filter “hero:symmetra” to find small sym streamers.

IIRC xQc streamed for over a year before he got any views. Asmon made WoW guides on youtube before twitch was even a thing, and got very little out of it for years. It is very rare that you see someone on twitch being instantly successful, and if that’s what you’re looking for in the platform it’s going to be a long difficult road.
