I wanna quit but can't

Its just a dopamine (chemical) addiction. You will Never be able to rationalize a reason why you can’t quit, because the reason is a chemical one, not a rational one. You just have to take action and quit. It’s the exact same dilemma for people who suffer from actual substance addiction (though obviously yours is not as extreme), they hate it, they want to quit, but their body just “can’t”.

Just uninstall the game cold turkey and never look back. It will be hard. But, it gets massively easier after the first couple days.

I had the same problem. I did some research and it turns out that videogames with a 50/50/% chance of winning are the most addictive. The only way to break that addiction is to set a limit to how many matches you play per day (i only play 2 matches per day now). Or u could set a time limit to how long u will allow yourself to play

Get friends to make it more enjoyable.
And search for a new hobby in the meantime to take up the time you use now for Overwatch.
I was thinking of starting to draw again.

im hoping when new mmo rpgs come out ill quit ow hopefully the mmorpgs arent your run of the mill basic mmorpg like WoW, FFXIV, Guild Wars 2, ESO, Lotro, Wildstar, Blade and soul and the main reason we don’t have anything innovative is because people are scared on what people will think about them and just go with the run of the mill mmorpg lmao I know absolutely no one gives a crap about this since im talking about rpgs in a fps forum

You just stop playing. Get a new hobby or find a new game.

You’ve just have to drop it entirely. And most importantly, remember this everytime you think of playing.

Don’t let yourself forget this. Whenever you want to play, envision what you would be doing on the game, and realize that you would be having a bad time.

It’s not easy to quit any addiction, but you are so much bigger than any 1 thing. Plus, quitting OW makes other games so much more enjoyable.

Blizz has been doing this since WoW honestly. They hired studies to find out how to make games psychologically addicting. Part of it is the cartoony graphics in all their games since wow make people feel happy, certain sound queue and reward system like you say. They’ve basically designed their games to release endorphins in your brain similar to drugs.

Another thing Overwatch does to keep people addicted, is the ranked selective matchmaking forced 50% WR mixes good players and bad players equally on each team. It uses good players as carries. This ensures that bad players will sometimes climb simply from being carried and reach ranks they never thought possible. It makes them feel good and like they can climb further, then they lose a few games and the system shoves them right back down to where their anchor stats are. But they think if they got there before they can do it again and thus begins the endless addictive grind of climbing and falling over and over. There’s a reason blizz has refused to make any changes to the rank system despite complaints from top players and big youtube channels. It’s a perfect recipe for addiction.

Well Blizzard as the manipulative company they are hire “specialized” people to make their games addictive… Saves them on actually having to pay more for producing good content.

A decent example of this Blizzard world on attack.

I always have a multiplayer title on the back burner. I just boot up overwatch for the bare minimum time to get whatever the event skins of the moment are. A lot of people probably play the game like this, in these latter days.

I’ve been playing a lot of battlefield 5 lately. Incredibly cinematic game and it’s very refreshing to play a game where a lot of thought and effort went into how the weapons feel, look and sound.

Once I found something else to do, I just didn’t even look back. Truthfully, playing this game is incredibly boring and pointless to me so I just opt not to play it at all anymore.

Same here people !! How the hell can I quit this thing, I don’t have fun, I hate the game, I don’t even like the lore … but this game is so addictive, I love all other blizzard games, not dependable of other people… so please any advice ?? I really want to quit it all together … community is extremely toxic and full of suppose player that wants to be the hero killing everyone by themselves … so again any advices ?? Uninstalling didn’t work

start reading a random book and making random content, what you need is a new hobby and these are perfect as they will enhance you and your creativity. take a break from gaming and come back refreshed

if you say you can’t. try again. do it until it works

everytime you want to game. sit down and force yourself to read one paragraph

done? still have the impulse to game? force yourself to read one more
this trick works for other addictions to, and exercise also works in addition to reading

I’m struggling with this too. I don’t enjoy the game, but I find myself playing it anyway, getting frustrated and annoyed and then eventually uninstalling the game and spending the rest of the day in a bad mood… Only to do it again the next day. Sometimes I’ll go a few days without playing but I always end up coming back. Probably out of boredom or addiction. It’s worse since covid as I’ve been working from home a lot.

I’ve just sent a support ticket to Blizzard asking for my account and PSN ID to be banned from playing the game. I doubt they’re going to do this though?

I guess I could just start throwing games and being a generally bad team mate in the hopes of getting banned… Maybe this is why the majority of the people you run in to in the game act like that?

I’ll let you know what they say… I guess if I don’t reply then I’m banned

i moved to apex legends/several single player games like hollow knight, mass effect ect

Yeah I have a backlog of single player games I really want to play too. I bought a PS5 in the hopes it would encourage me to play them as a lot had PS5 patches. But I keep coming back to Overwatch. I don’t really want to just replace one pointless multiplayer game with another one. So have been avoiding Apex and similar games.

Tanking is mostly bad because it seems the rest of the team now doesn’t understand the need to support the tanks going in. I even mention this in chat and its like talking to Zombies. I really don’t get it, I think the general quality of player has fallen dramatically in the last two years.

I think a lot of the tank and support players you see in lower ranks are people flexing for passes to play DPS.

biggest steps are to unistall (make it harder to reinstall too), just start something else (hardest step imo esp when you have depression), and just remember those loot boxes/cp aren’t actually worth the serotonin.

If you keep playing it even though you claim you hate it, maybe you don’t actually hate it. If you truly hated it you wouldn’t play it.

Sadly no. What you’re realizing is that OW is actually a pretty darn good FPS shooter with unique and interactive guns and abilities and that there isn’t anything close to the polished design of playing actual lore characters instead of “Marine Soldier #17893” you realize that you don’t want to really play the alternatives. Or you do, but you get bored of them reaaaally quickly. If you loathe Battle Royales and/or FPS where everyone just guns each other down with generic rifles in a second or two the current FPS market is even worse for you

In other words you’ll probably never cope from OW until OW2 comes out as there aren’t simply as good alternatives on the market for you. There’s plenty for those who haven’t taken a deep dive into the world of OW and appreciated it for all the good it has, but not for those who have gotten a taste of the better competitive design

I’d recommend Master Chief’s Collection as an alternative if you’re looking for one. It’s the only FPS that gives you a slightly similar feeling and offers players actual battles between each other when they start shooting at each other
