Ever since 5v5 Winston has been such an easy tank for teams to counter and it sucks. They can just go reaper and force point as a team and you’re forced to swap. I wanta play him everywhere and all the time again and not be punished so hard for it. Bring 6v6 back, I want my D.Va partner back. Hell I’d settle for whatever tank they go. I just want a sidekick back.

I thought it was just me. Winton is so much harder to play now in 5v5. Other tanks with higher survivability and better kill potential tend to get more easy value. Especially in lower elo that I’m playing.
Winton shined in certain 2CP maps too, like Temple of Anubis. I miss going overtime and stalling the 2nd point on winton using his primal rage, that used to feel so good.
I play a tank in Masters. Reaper doesn’t counter Winston. I have a harder time with Torb. Hog and Dva counter me. As Winston, all you have to do is kill the support and dive back to your support. You do need decent dps though.
Winston was the meta pick for most of this year.
The problem is that dive comps are hard to play at low Elo.

He specializes in isolating targets but has grown increasingly incapable of making his own plays over the years.
I would rather say it depends very much on the support lineup and the enemy lineup. Currently in Bastion/Orisa meta he will get shredded very fast even with his shield. Like others have said: he was meta for a long time and was even in S5 a pretty strong pick, so much so that people wanted to nerf him.
Also, Ana, Bap and Illari make his life a living hell. They can burst him down, negate his damage or debuff him so that he falls over.
So no. You dont need a 5 stack or a dive partner. Like any other tanks he suffers from the “Does the enemy allows me to play X?” syndrome, that only Zarya and Orisa negate.
I only play against Winston for maybe a minute before they swap to Zarya or Orisa. One of the rare downsides of playing Pig.
Ive been saying this for a long time. Blizzard doesnt understand how severely they weakened certain heroes, especially more offmeta ones by removing 2cp. They replaced it with push and flashpoint which prioritse mobility and range over more team and defensive plays which sucks. Heroed like junk n sym cannot be sucessfully played on push maps but they were in their element in maps like anubis and this was never addressed. They basically all but admit that the game will keep moving closer to braindead gunplay over teamplay
same as a Dva main its very frustrating when they insta swap to zarya and I cant do anything but swap to another hero. It feels like this is happening every game after her recent buffs. 
Winston is fine if you just understand how to deal with the likes of Reaper, Roadhog, and Bastion
Don’t charge them head first, don’t jump them without a barrier, try to catch them after their key abilities are done with.
Reaper specifically isn’t even that good into Winston if the Winston avoids him or jumps on him as the Reaper is in your backline.
Season 2 or 3’s (I forget which it was) monkey meta was just as unfun and unhealthy as any other tank meta to deal with since 5v5, tbh.
I agree that it’s crazy how easy it is to counter him now, though. And 5v5’s current design philosophy is definitely to blame for both these issues.
