But not because of what you think, Sombra is a parasite, good riddance.
The problem is it’s now been established that Blizzard can just gut any hero at any time. So unless you’re a Kiriko main, you’re in danger of having your character’s entire identity be erased so Blizzard can sell more skins.
So about that whole “Widowmaker” character…
Unfortunately she stole Ram’s mythic, so she’ll get special treatment this season.
She might even get a mid-season buff after her ‘map nerfs’.
I think the devs are actually playing 4d chess. They nerf some of the best widow maps and release a widow mythic to get more data about how those changes.

This was already clear when they nerfed Roadhog in to non-functionality for like a year, even while saying he was doing ok at best according to their statistics.
Would it have been so hard to remove Virus and give her a separate invisibility skill? I’m a Sombra hater but even I can admit this rework makes 0 sense

It’s been pretty obvious since, like OW1 S6 that Blizzard balances their game around popularity and viewability.
That’s why it’s always the same handful of mobile flankers and ranged hitscans rotating through the meta while the rest of the DPS cast is lucky to even be viable.
That’s why Symmetra got reworked into a bad DPS and Mercy got reworked into a pocket bot while Ana’s fundamentally broken utility gets to run the game meta after meta.
That’s why Hanzo gets reworks followed by rebalances followed by more reworks ad infinitum while Widow gets slaps on the wrists at best.
That’s why Reaper gets to live in the dumpster for the entire lifespan of the game, but Blizzard will ruin the game trying to indirectly nerf Tracer rather than nerf her.
That’s why poor Bastion got nuked within three days of being meta in a time when Blizzard was taking three months to roll out patches.
This whole game is divided between heroes who are allowed to be good and heroes who aren’t, heroes whose identity is sacred and heroes who are in permanent alpha dev. Unfortunately Sombra is one of the latter.

Well before I think it was just sheer incompetence.
But now it’s just them plainly carpet bombing Sombra (good), which means they can do it to other characters (bad).
And Tracer was the original Kiriko, so of course she got favouritism.
Or it is someone they don’t know exists like Torb, Venture or Echo.
Nah, they know about Venture, I have made them very aware.
Also they were aware enough to nerf Venture in their debut season and never buff them again.
Blizzard already established that with Hog. I get it, he is my icon… I am biased because I once played him or whatever. But they have been mistreating unpopular characters for awhile and they literally said that they were going to purposely force Winston/Dva/Reinhardt and leave Mauga/Hog as trash. I have no idea why everyone is ignoring that, but they gave us a heads up and even if they did not, the favoritism was obvious well before they nerfed Sombra regardless.
And notice how Orisa is not up there. Yeah, because I guess she is pretty popular. In other words, what we say does not matter. What the data suggests is another matter. And that is why it took so long for Sombra to get gutted. EVERYONE was playing her after virus. It was only after the nerfs that these bozos realized it was a power level thing because her winrate being bad confused a lot of people who struggle to think for themselves.

this is exactly why I’m pretty much done with blizzard as a company… been playing their games for almost 25 years, and the last 12 months I have had more issues than in the last 2 decades combined… WoW is so glitchy that dungeons may or may not be completable, Diablo 4 is crap in general, OW can’t figure out what it is actually doing other than pushing for macrotransactions on skins. Racism, bigotry, and harassment run rampant on these forums with absolute radio silence from mods. Sombra is currently 2/3rds of a hero, and just like with OW2’s debut, promising pve sotrylines and everything else, they are now promising a major midseason buff for her… screw all of this…
